Publisher's summary

In the thrilling companion to one of Book Depository’s Best Books of All Time, experience the peril and heart-stopping romance through Leila’s fresh perspective.

Leila T. Salvatíraas, Savior of Thessen and magical Queen of Her realm, is worshipped by all.

Except Her father. He wants Her dead.

The Sovereign’s Tournament - a centuries-long tradition designed to select The Savior’s husband - is days away, but Brontes’ plan to overthrow his daughter ignites, shifting the objective of the competition from marriage to murder.

With the help of Her sisters and some unexpected allies, Leila must unravel Brontes’s network and prevent Her own assassination. But as the body count rises, She learns the deception runs far deeper than She imagined.

When She finds Herself falling for one of the tournament competitors, Her father finds himself another target for murder.

Can Leila save Herself and Her beloved, or is their untimely end - and the corruption of Her realm - inevitable?

Trigger warnings: This book contains graphic violence, sexual situations, physical abuse, adult language, and references to suicide.

Fun but unnecessary and repetitive

I loved The Savior’s Champion, but this companion novel just wasn’t necessary. I really like Leila and I enjoyed learning more about the palace intrigue plot, but there weren’t enough revelations or new content to justify an entire book.

A lot of the content is a retelling of scenes from the first book, which was fun at first because I enjoyed Leila’s POV, but got old fast. I also didn’t feel like this book maintained much tension (unlike book 1, which kept me up at night!), since we already know who lives and who dies.

I’m complaining a lot but I did enjoy this book. It gives you more insight into the court and the magic system, and lets you spend more time with some of my favorite characters. But I think it would have been stronger woven into the sequel (which Jenna is writing now and I can’t wait to read).

If you loved TSC, want more time with the ladies of the court, and don’t mind repetition, it’s worth a credit. If not, you’ll probably be fine reading a plot summary between books 1 and 3.

Captivating

A great tale of political espionage working in tandem with it's companion piece. An amazing romance story, bloody and thrilling, and a protagonist that stands out.

this book was absolutely amazing and I cant wait for the next one. I read this book in a day and I most likely will start it over again very soon while waiting for the next book.

A lot of the same, but still pretty captivating

If you have read the first book, which I’m assuming you have seeing as how you’re looking at the sequel, it’s the same story told but from the savior’s perspective rather than Tobias’ perspective. This bothered me the first few times the story went back over scenes from the first book, which happens quite often, but seeing the rest of the story behind the scenes (mostly political intrigue) was very fun.

Exceptional Side Story

Not a fair opinion since of course a woman had to do the voice for Laila's story, however I wasn't a fan of Rondys' voice in this one. He was the only one though. Every other voice was fantastic.

Wish there were more….

Usually when you get a sequel from another perspective you get lots of plot twists and reveals that make things you previously knew visible from a whole different point of view… or you get the rest of the story. I’m definitely looking forward to the 3rd book but I can’t help but feel like this one was a tad anti-climactic. Definitely LOVE Jenna’s writing and also LOVE LOVE her choices for the narrators of each book! Seriously can’t wait for more from them!

A Good story but hear me out

It was a good story but basically the same as The Saviors Champion just from Laila's perspective. I was truly hoping for a continuation from her first book. But all artist do have their the bigger picture in mind and I'm sure Jenna Moreci has a plan for the next installment in The Saviors story. I look forward to hearing what becomes of Tobias, his family, Laila, Delphi, and Pippa.

Brilliant

I love how actions and consequences are interwoven no matter how small. Most memorable moment was Layla's dream of her sisters betrayal just brilliant. Narrator does Layla justice. I would love to hear a public reading of both narrators.

Excellent! Even better than the first of the series

I loved the first book, The Savior’s Champion, but I loved this one even more. The performance of the narrator was also incredible. She captured each character perfectly. I loved the friendship between Leila and Delphi and the blossoming friendship between Leila and Raphael. Delphi and Raphael are complete characters, not just “black friend” stereotypes. They have their own goals and purposes. It’s also nice to see the healthy romantic relationship between Leila and Tobias.
