Fantastic, especially the reader!

Jason Markiewitz did a fantastic job as reader of this book. His accents were excellent. He made the characters come alive and presented the dialog in a very real way. I remember a bit about when this event took place, but until I listened to the book, I didn't realize the magnitude of the event. I highly recommend this book, and I look forward to listening to more books read by Jason Markiewitz.

Another Hit!

The Audiobook of Steve Maffeo's tale of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis is giving an added dimension to his gripping story telling. The narrator captures the essence of the intricacies and nuances of the Russian language--its inflections and tonalities--that gives "The Russian Who Saved The World" an authentic "you-are-there" presence and depth to that turbulent and tense period in US-USSR relations.

Moreover, it gives justice in bringing to life the bravery and courage of CAPT Arkhipov's showdown efforts to prevent what might have been a nuclear war of catastrophic proportions. In the voices of the submarine crew, the listener will share in the fear and desperation of sweaty and oxygen-deprived submariners caught up in a climactic situation that could change the world forever.

Indeed, the Audiobook is a welcome and worthy companion that lets the listener share in one of the most dangerous periods in US history. Bravo Zulu!

War Games under the sea

The Russian Who Saved the World: A Novel of the Cuban Missile Crisis by career respected military-man turned talented author Steven E. Maffeo is a gripping and captivating story that explores the events during the month of October 1962.

Following the heroic actions of a Russian submarine officer who is involved in those dangerous operations, The Russian Who Saved the World explores what could have happened if history took a different turn.

Audiobook narrator and producer Jason Markiewitz is the one who has recorded this superb story in audiobook format. He reads expertly and enthusiastically, he infuses the action with urgency and authenticity by assigning each of the main characters different voices and natural accents.

This is not my first contact with Jason‘s work and I always like the way he brings these performances to life. Jason is an excellent voiceover artist and I can see a bright future in front of him, especially because it is very clear that a lot of time, research, and patience has been put into the way he pronounces the Russian words for this novel. The audio production is very good as well.

Written with care, filled with believable characters, a lot of details about the submariners’ life in the deep which could only come through painstaking research and driven by a fascinating plot, The Russian Who Saved the World is immersive, intriguing, and extremely entertaining.

If you are a fan of the Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy, you will surely love this adventure set under the turbulent seas, in a time when a third World War could have started with just a push of a button.
