Publisher's summary

He never bothered with hello. The shrieking hot stranger had me dizzy the instant he said we're engaged. Then he chased off the bully on our heels and dragged me back to his place for the night.

Pure insanity, right?

Wrong. You don't let pride do the talking when you're homeless, on the run, and hauling around your sick father in a truck so old it must've been on Noah's Ark. You definitely don't complain when Ridge Barnet takes charge. (In)famous heartthrob. Stinking rich. Fed up owner of one angry rooster. Eyes set to permanent storm.

Of course, it doesn't end there. My unexpected Romeo doubles down on this ridiculous "fake fiancee" rescue scheme. One blazing kiss shatters worlds. I'm swept up in a small-town fairy tale, wishing I hadn't lost my faith in wishes years ago.

He's saving my life. Hero and done. Nothing more. Prince Charmings don't really marry pumpkin farmers from Wisconsin. Give me strength. Tell me his gaze doesn't scream obsession. Save me from his oh-so-believable growls. Help me believe our little arrangement never, ever ends in "I do".

Contains mature themes.

Narration isn’t great

I have listened to several books with Tor Thom and most have been ok. This is the first one with Heather Costa. Narrator makes of breaks an audio book. Female narrator’s voice consistently sounded like she needed to clear her throat or recorded after a night out. It was so frustrating because I like the story itself. Tor is good with southern accents but didn’t do it here considering Ridge was from Southern California and not South Carolina. Narrator should match the setting of the story. Even the romantic scenes were poorly done. Just didn’t have the feels that I look for in a good book.

Nice love story

Very well written story. Great characters. Nice romance. Great narration.

Main female characters dad made some poor life choices. On the run with no where to go they are given a place to stay by a Hollywood actor with his own issues to overcome.

Ridge and Grace

The things I loved about this story, are the characters and the supporting characters, and the story itself. Nicole always does a great job in her writing. The only thing that would have been better is the female Narrator and that is why I only gave 3 stars on performance. unfortunately Heather sounded like a frog and annoying and her male voice was not even close to Tor, and it sounded really robotic which took away from the story. Not to be insulting to Heather, it just wasn't a fit.

Who put Heather Costa on fast forward?

I like the written story and have read it already. I started to listen to this and it truly was awful. Heather Costa is put on fast forward until she sounds like a munchkin from Wizard of Oz, but Tor Thom is deep and slow. I tried slowing the replay to .80 and it sounds awful. Costa still sounds chipmunk like and Thom is toooo slooww. It is really too bad because I liked the written book.

Cute country romance with some suspense to boot!

Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Grace Sellers - she is on the road with her dad, in the winter snow. They are on the run from, Clay Grendel a maniac who thinks he is Al Capone. They are in a rusty old Ford truck with a horse trailer on the back, including two horses that were like family to them. Her father is sick with congestive heart failure, he used to be large and robust, but he has been diminished and hasn’t done well under the weight on their shoulders. They left Wisconsin after their farm burned to the ground and plan to get to Montana as soon as they can. In the midst of a snowstorm, they find a dive bar/restaurant that they can pull in to.

The Hero: Ridge Barnet - he lives with his personal valet, Tobin. Tobin has been with him since he was a kid. His mother assigned Tobin to Ridge to keep an eye on him and he has been watching over him ever since, though he had a few years off while Ridge was in the military. Ridge was a famous actor, he is also the son of a movie star and a successful businessman, though both parents have since died. He moved away from Hollywood, and now owns a ranch in Dallas, North Dakota.

The Story: Grace sees Ridge the minute she walks into the restaurant and can’t help but see how handsome he is. She hears from her cousin in Montana who was going to put them up for a while, that she and her family were threatened, she knows they can’t stay there. Her father got involved with Clay Grendal when he borrowed money when Grace’s mom was sick. They gave everything they had, but Grendal wanted Grace.

When Ridge sees a thug bothering Grace and her father, he confronts the man and tells him that Grace is his fiancee. He then offers to take Grace and her father to his ranch where they can put their horses in his barn and use the small house he has on his land. Grace and her father end up staying at Ridge’s ranch for a while. The story was interesting, and I liked the characters quite a bit.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Tor Thom and Heather Costa. Tor Thom has a very deep voice which I really like, and he is great at showing emotion through his voice. Heather Costa’s voice isn’t bad, but I am not fond of it as she sounds much older than Grace should be. She has kind of a scratchy voice and sounds like she has a cold. What really bothers me is her voice for the male characters, which sounds like a man who has been sucking on a bunch of helium.
