About this listen
This story is told through the jagged peephole of the author's awareness, examining her formative wounds and influences from the perspective of a woman who has now gained experience and wisdom. As she peers over her soul's shoulder, she recalls the chaos of her once-fragile childhood mind. She shudders as she is reminded of the sting of her lonely childhood, her feelings of abandonment, and her painful memories of being bullied. Her childhood self was once so lost that she even contemplated suicide. As the years progress, her mind is riddled with obsession, compulsion, and a crippling sense of low self-esteem. A turning point arrives many years later, after marriage and the birth of three children.
This story is about healing the faulty programming of childhood. It is about recovery from relationship addiction, food addiction, anxiety, and constant fear. It is a human story that will resonate with listeners from all walks of life, and which offers hope to anyone who has felt imprisoned by the past.

Story
When you are codependent, you are unconscious. You do not know that emotional neglect has caused your brain to believe life is a threatening reality. Instead of believing you are worthy of love, you feel unworthy of love. You do not make choices because they might bring you joy. You play it small, try not to rock the boat, people-please, and focus on what you do not want to happen versus what you would like to happen.

Much like gravity, the law of attraction is a natural law of the universe, and one that governs every interaction you ever have. You can only attract into your experience those things that resonate with you on an emotional and or vibrational level. It is no coincidence that women who marry alcoholics had alcoholic fathers, grandfathers or uncles. What a child experiences in childhood determines that beings emotional set point; their point of attraction.

Story
This is my second book of affirmations. I am a life coach who specializes in helping wounded adult children from dysfunctional homes move beyond their childhood brainwashing, so they can manifest beyond the limiting templates they were taught to believe were real. My agenda is to create a movement among wounded others that allows them to understand that until they confront the templates that were created through innocuous brainwashing as children, they will live their lives unaware as to their true potential.

Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Although clinical research has been conducted on narcissism as a disorder, less is known about its effects on victims who are in toxic relationships with partners with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Individuals with this disorder engage in chronic devaluation and manipulation of their partners, a psychological and emotional phenomenon known as "narcissistic abuse". Unfortunately, the full extent of what narcissistic abuse entails is not taught in any psychology class or diagnostic manual.

Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Story
Recently hailed as "the greatest cabaret artist of [V's] generation" in The New Yorker, Mx. Justin Vivian Bond makes a brilliant literary debut with this staggeringly candid and hilarious novella-length memoir. With a recent diagnosis of attention deficit disorder, and news that V's first lover from childhood has been imprisoned for impersonating an undercover police officer, Bond recalls in vivid detail coming of age as a trans kid. Always haunted by the knowledge of being "different," Bond was further confused when the bully next door wanted to meet secretly. Their trysts went on for years, and made Bond acutely aware of sexual power and vulnerability. With inimitable style, Bond raises issues about LGBTQ adolescence, homophobia, parenting, and sexuality, while being utterly entertaining.

Story
The words on the page jumbled into a toxic mess my brain refused to comprehend, much less accept. Please consider this letter as a formal request to arrange a paternity test (DNA). I barely remembered Chelsea Airy. That wasn't true - we'd gone out once, and we'd been friends for a while after. But I hadn't heard so much as a peep from her since I'd gotten married. I'd reached out a handful of times, but she'd quit responding and fell off the face of the earth.

What a child experiences in childhood determines that beings emotional set point; their point of attraction.

Wow
Lisa A Romano is the best teacher I’ve ever experienced. I’ve been on a lifelong journey of healing and her insights have opened doors I didn’t know existed. This book was profound in many way. First of all, her gut wrenching honesty is clear. Also, I am shocked to the point of paralysis from the fact that so many of her experiences are identical to mine. This is beyond what can be called coincidence. This has made me understand that these wounds create an energy that attracts certain events to come into your life. The purpose of which I can only conclude are meant to teach us what we are born to learn in this life. The reader of this book did the best job I’ve ever heard as well. I am sometimes distracted by readers of books not their own. This reader did an impeccable job of narrating the story and not trying to act it out which allows the listener to incorporate the story through the lens of our own imagination and experiences. Overall this audible book was amazing. A story well written and told and an audible well read. I can not recommend this book enough to anyone who wants to gain insight into codependency, childhood trauma and healing. It is my wish that this book find its way to all who need it. Namaste

I read a few reviews of people upset that this didn't give them tips and pointers on codependenc, I guess I knew going into it that this was just a story of her life. I loved it because I can totally relate and I can't wait to read the next one.
