Jo and Ed are unlikely best friends.
He is the only son of wealthy parents. She was born on 'the wrong side of the tracks'. He loves sport, messing around with cars, and drinking. She's ambitious and hardworking. They are, in fact, a perfect team. They've stood by each other for almost 30 years. They've built a successful business together.
There's just one problem.
Jo is having an affair with Ed's wife. And now someone knows their secret.
It's Christmas Eve 2014.
And nothing is ever going to be the same again...

Would you consider the audio edition of The Retreat to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version, but I'm sure that the narration has added to the enjoyment. What did you like best about this story?
The many layers and the different relationships. What about Jan Cramer’s performance did you like?
She sounded natural and was easy to follow and enjoyable to listen to.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Nothing extreme. But a lot of recognition. It kept me locked to my headphones

The narrator... She was great, don't get me wrong, she had great flow, character voice, and annunciation. But, I kept thinking that her narrative voice sounding like an orator from BBC world news; All dispassionate and informative and very posh. which is great for a news person but mind numbing for a story. I kept praying for long sections of dialogue so she wouldn't be using that voice.
Was mislead by the synopsis

What disappointed you about The Retreat?
I hate when people don't say what needs to be said and that Ed didn't get what hedeserved.
What could Jane Retzig have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Punishment and make people say what they want instead of holding back and coddle someone who is a drunk and didn't care for his family and her committing adultery.
Have you listened to any of Jan Cramer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't.If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Retreat?
It was ok. Just would have told it differently.Any additional comments?
Think I will write my own book and make people real.Angry
