Publisher's summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author and “thriller master” (Mystery and Suspense Magazine) Janet Evanovich returns with the launch of a “tense, suspenseful, funny, and wise” (Lee Child) series blending wild adventure, hugely appealing characters, and pitch-perfect humor.

Lost something? Gabriela Rose knows how to get it back. As a recovery agent, she’s hired by individuals and companies seeking lost treasures, stolen heirlooms, or missing assets. She’s reliable, cool under pressure, and well trained in weapons of all types. But Gabriela’s latest job isn’t for some bamboozled billionaire, it’s for her own family, whose home is going to be wiped off the map if they can’t come up with a lot of money fast.

Inspired by an old family legend, Gabriela sets off for the jungles of Peru in pursuit of the Ring of Solomon and the lost treasure of Lima. But this job comes with a huge problem attached to it—Gabriela’s ex-husband, Rafer. It’s Rafer who has the map that possibly points the way to the treasure, and he’s not about to let Gabriela find it without him.

Rafer is as relaxed as Gabriela is driven, and he has a lifetime’s experience getting under his ex-wife’s skin. But when they aren’t bickering about old times the two make a formidable team, and it’s going to take a team to defeat the vicious drug lord who has also been searching for the fabled ring. A drug lord who doesn’t mind leaving a large body count behind him to get it.

“A rollicking adventure and a great start to a new series” (Booklist, starred review), The Recovery Agent will have you clamoring for more and cheering for the unstoppable Gabriela Rose.

Critic reviews

"Fans of Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, also narrated by Lorelei King, will welcome this new series featuring recovery agent Gabriela Rose. Unlike Stephanie, Gabriela is highly competent, fearless, gunslinging, and a successful businesswoman. King’s voice for Gabriela conveys her strong, confident personality. To save her family’s hometown from ruin, Gabriela pursues an ancient treasure, a ring known as the Seal of Solomon. She reluctantly teams up with her ex-husband, Rafer. Listeners go on an action-packed, deadly quest across continents." (AudioFile Magazine)

Fantastic start to this Humorous Mystery series!

This is the first book in a new series. It features Gabriella Rose a recovery agent. But she is not a bounty hunter. She recovers lost/stolen items and investigates insurance fraud. Her recent case is personal. She is trying to find the Seal of Solomon. It is part of the Treasure of Lima. She has clues to it’s whereabouts from old family diaries. In trying to retrieve said diaries she has to break in to her old house. See she messed up by letting her ex-husband have the house. And she gets caught. So in the interest of all concerned he tags along on this treasure hunt. This story is full of history, humor and danger. They travel from South Carolina to Peru to New York City to Costa Rica to Peru to California and back to South Carolina. They are in competition for the treasure with a psychotic leader of a cult of the god of death. They are also helped along the way with a variety of colorful characters. I literally read this in a day. Well, with a little help from Audible. Lorelei King does an excellent job as narrator. She nails matching accents and voices to the characters. I highly recommend this book and I am looking forward to more.

Not so much…

I was eager to find a new heroine that I could love as much as Stephanie Plum. This book did not quite do it for me. It was all fine, but not that laugh out loud funny. I enjoyed the supporting characters more than Gabriella Rose and I did appreciate the performance.

Got Bored

I really wanted to like this, especially after enjoying Gabriela Rose's debut in the last Stephanie Plum novel. Unfortunately, I found both the story and character rather boring in this novel. I especially disliked the supporting characters around her. Very disappointing overall.

A fun book

We meet Gabriella Rose in the previous Stephanie Plum book. This is Gabriella's story. That & her Ex-Husband and partner in this adventure. Here she is trying to find an artifact in order to save her home town of Scion SC which was wiped out by the last hurricane. Things don't go as planned & several Miss Adventures along the way.

Clever! Made Me Laugh!!

Really enjoyed this. Entertaining. Thanks. I needed that—though the story could have stood on its own, humor made it so much better.
