Seems as if it is for pre teens and teenagers.

This had great reviews, but the lead character seems to think like a middle school or high school girl. She is the lead scientist on the team, but she is more focused on one of her team members "penetrating her" with his eyes making her blush. When first interviewed him for the team and he asked to use her first name how that made "her blush". Her heart beats faster when he does something.... Doesn't seamed geared toward adults.
Another example is that government reps come to tell her that parts of the country (California one state, where her sister lives) have been overthrown by anarchists and they need her to speed up time travel research to go back and fix it. Her team asks her why is the govt here. "To tell me something terrible happened to my sister". Really? That's your takeaway? When questioned further, oh yeah life as we know it has changed, societal norms have broken down and the only system of government we have known is ending. I have no specific information about my sister, but the main takeaway is the govt came to tell me my sister is in trouble.
That is what I mean by I think this is geared toward pre-teens and teenagers. I only made it through one hour of a six-hour book.
Maybe it got wonderfully better, who knows? Not me.
