Publisher's summary

New Doncaster should have been a success. It wasn’t.

A deeply corrupt and embedded ruling class, disenfranchised settlers, and embittered indentured workers–slaves in all but name—have poisoned the planet. They've unleashed the fires of class war and threatening to turn the beautiful planet into hell in the wake of Earthfall.

Sinister forces are stirring the pot. Roland—once Crown Prince of Earth, now a Marine Auxiliary—was charged with building an army to stabilise New Doncaster, but it was too late. The rebels struck and the planet fell into civil war. Roland scored one victory, keeping the rebels from winning in a single blow, but the war is far from over. Rebel forces have swept over the outlying islands, destroying plantations, capturing infrastructure, liberating slaves while forcing their former owners to flee or die on the remains of their lands.

Now, with both sides preparing for the coming contest, Roland—cut off from the Marine Corps—finds himself charged with leading the government troops, to launch a desperate military gambit to win a war against a rebel force that might have right on its side. And if his gambit fails, the entire planet may collapse into chaos.

pretty decent continuation.

This series is very entertaining. I love how we are focusing on the princess development as a warrior and his still history as a spoiled prince. I am looking forward to the continuing of this story as it seems the enemy has flipped.

Good story But...

I have and have read all of the Empire Corp books. All are very good. The only problem with this book is I have sort of been here before. No spoilers but I know where this story is going in the short term. This is in no way a criticism just an observation from someone who remembers all the earlier books. I am looking forward to the next book to see what the Prince does next.

Nuttall's Series are Great!

Mr. Nuttall has written some of my favorite military Sci-fi novels. I hope he isn't planning on ending this series anytime soon.

I asked for it but am disappointed

For a long time I have asked for news of the Childe Roland. I was a little surprised that he could be rehabilitated at all, but a Pathfinder helped him man up.

I am disappointed because this story isn't much different from all the others. There is no literary reason so far for Roland's being the heir apparent emperor, and frankly his military acumen is not credible. I say "so far" because I still hold out hope for some reason, but 20 books in and my hope is thinning.

Several stories on various planets have been left hanging, and I would like to see what goes on there. I'm guessing we don't need to revisit Avalon since Stocker and his governor wife have things under control and the people are thriving under their domesticated rule.

There's still Admiral Singh, and that Wolf's Bane person out there to wind up. But I doubt their stories will be any different-- eventually a strong honorable leader will conquer the greedy power-hungry warlords, and restore peace and pastorality to the planets.
