About this listen

She thought they wanted her baby. But they won’t stop there.

Roz is young, penniless and pregnant. All she wants is to be the perfect mother to her child, but the more she thinks about her own chaotic upbringing, the more certain she is that the best life for her baby is as far away as possible from her hometown in Ireland.

Determined to do the right thing, Roz joins an elite adoption service and can’t believe her luck. Within days she is jetting to New York to meet a celebrity power couple desperate for a child of their own. Sheridan and Daniel are wealthy and glamorous - everything Roz isn’t. Her baby will never go hungry, and will have every opportunity for the perfect life. But soon after Roz moves into their plush basement suite, she starts to suspect that something darker lurks beneath the glossy surface of their home.

When Roz discovers she isn’t the first person to move in with the couple, and that the previous woman has never been seen since, alarm bells start ringing. As the clock ticks down to her due date, Roz realises her unborn baby may be the only thing keeping her alive, and that despite her best intentions, she has walked them both into the perfect nightmare...

Fantastic!

Caroline writes of some incredibly horrific situations that terrify any sane person! This young woman’s poor choice that resulted in an unexpected pregnancy set up a series of events that led to an ultimate nightmare and suffering that almost cost her and her baby's life! What a thriller! I love this author and the narrator's Alan Kerr Collins and Christina Traister were perfect for this book!

Very entertaining. I recommend this book.

I love the DI Amy Winter series, and this book was a very entertaining standalone book. I enjoyed the narrator's work, and the story kept my attention.

Meh 2.5 Stars

Predictable (except the ridiculous twist at the end), repetitive, and boring. I expected much better given the rating and reviews of this book. The narrators were pretty good though.

Great idea; marginal execution

Such an intriguing idea! However as the story moves along it becomes less and less believable. Sections remind me of the sarcastic commercial where the kids decide to “hide behind the chainsaws”. The author decided to put several twists to tie plot lines up in a neat bow, (no spoilers here) but a very unsatisfying twist at the end does the story no favors and, in fact begs for a resolution that never comes. Everyone “kisses and makes up” with no after effects, a villain escapes unscathed and the almost fairytale ending (no weddings, no Prince Charming, only empowered women - this is a very modern book!) closes the curtain.

Unexpected ending

Thought I had it all figured out but there was an amazing twist at the end. Recommend for those who enjoy a bit of intreague.

Great story but I did listen ahead, because ...

I appreciate the many glowing reviews for this book, and recognition of the many twists and turns in it. But after a couple of hours of getting into the main part of the story, I realized that I simply did not have a stomach for the nastiness and treachery that I knew was going to take place for the several months prior to the climactic scenes and aftermath. Maybe that means I am not a real listener to suspense, but, um, that's ok. I listened far enough to understand virtually all the main threads as they came together in the ending. That ending was quite good and did have some more twists. I rarely give 5 star ratings. This is a solid listen, especially if one permits one's self the "skip the middle" option that I happily took.

PSYCHOlogical, indeed!

So audictive, I’m on my second listen

Just what I was seeking ... Love, trust, kind vs. maniacal, crazed, wicked! Sometimes when choosing the perfect audiobook, timing is everything and this was it. “The Good Mother” lingered in my Audible library for quite awhile and after trying two others, I started this and was satisfied from the very beginning of this compelling listen. Again author Caroline Mitchell does not disappoint as she delivers a suspenseful, chilling tale and mystery-within-a-mystery. Combined with precise narration by Alana Kerr Collins and Christina Traister, we follow a young gullible, pregnant Irish girl who travels to New York for a private adoption. Featuring a menagerie of emotions, this perfectly paced frenzied tale grabbed my attention and never let go. Thank you to Mitchell, Collins and Traister, as well as Audible. Highly recommended; a welcome addition to my Audible library.

A perfect thriller

Wanting to give her baby an advantage over her own childhood, Roz decided to sell her baby to a celebrity couple. Leaving her Irish homeland for New York City Roz learns she is being kept a prisoner for one reason, her child. Unable to contact family or friends the situation becomes more desperate with each passing month until things come to a boiling point,
Had the couple held another girl captive? Were each of the staff employed by the celebrities what they seemed?
After the birth of her child, would her captors allow Roz to return home?
This book kept me on the edge of me seat - turning page after page to the end. Great read from start to funish.
