About this listen

Joseph Cabot is a very popular wealthy San Franciscan who owns the main newspaper in town, as well as radio stations and TV. Years ago, Brooklyn’s husband Derek and his security team rescued Joseph from an assassination attempt, and now the man and his wife are friendly with Derek and Brooklyn. The friendship is helped along by the fact that Joseph is a big book lover and contributes lavishly to the Covington Library. His favorite author is Mark Twain (another newspaperman), and he’s underwritten the first annual Mark Twain Festival at the Covington.

As part of the festival activities, Brooklyn will spend a few hours every day at the Library, giving demonstrations of her work, re-binding an old copy of The Prince and the Pauper. There will be events all week, all around town, celebrating the time Twain spent in the city. But the biggest event is being run by Joseph’s newspaper: a citywide contest based on The Prince and the Pauper - they want to find someone who looks like Joseph!

The two men will trade places for a week as part of a huge publicity campaign to raise money for the Covington Library. But the fun turns frantic when a murder occurs right before Brooklyn’s eyes! Now Brooklyn and Derek will have to chase clues all over their beloved city to solve the murder before another death becomes front-page news.

Horrid new narrator

I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing this book. The new narrator is horrible.

Sorry to hear about the loss of Susie Berneis

I loved listening to Susie narrate the Bibliophile Mystery series for many years. She brought many hours of listening pleasure to people who love the Kate Carlisle characters. I will miss hearing Suzie's expert accents and narrations very much.

Please please audition your narrator

I love this series but was extremely disappointed
with the narrator. Her British accent was horrible. I had a hard time getting into the book. Please go back to the previous narrator.

Well Worth the Wait

I cleared my decks, made sure I had a full day with no interruptions, and settled in to enjoy time with Brooklyn and Derek. I was a bit taken back when I realized the narrator was new - and I think she needs to work on voicing Derek - BUT even that could not dim the sheer magic of Kate Carlisle's writing skill. I fell into Brooklyn's and Derek's world and did not want to return.

In addition to some well known and beloved characters, not to mention the Covington Library, this book introduces a few I hope to see again. It also provided an entertaining storyline with just enough red herrings to keep me guessing. I thought I knew who the culprit was, but I wasn't sure until the very end. Let's just say there were plenty of clues and hints and surprises.

Now I wait longingly for the next opportunity to join Brooklyn and Derek, and may I say I hope we spend more time in Dharma on our next visit.

Difficult listening to the new narrator

The story was excellent, however, the new narrator made listening to the story difficult. Sara Young read the women's voices ok; the men's voices sounded fake.

Change of narrator

I couldn’t listen to this book. After 15 books, the narrator was changed?! I don’t know if this narrator is good or bad, I do know this perky voice is not the one I hear in my head for Brooklyn and the very stuffy British accent used for Derrick is just odd after all of the other books. I have listened to the whole series , but o am going to read this one.

Another great book

Story line great, Nice twists and turns.
This narrator should just have read the book and not tried accents or genders she cannot do them. Listened to the whole book, truly painful at times. The reader was unbelievably out of her comfort zone.
If she reads the next book I’ll buy the paper back

Terrible narration

I have enjoyed the complete series as to story lines, however this narrator was gawd awful. It was very difficult to listen when Derrick was in conversation with any of the other characters because his British accent was a caricature of the British accents in any of the previous books. It would be a shame to keep this narrator should we be lucky enough to have additional books in the series.

Great like the rest

Although it is well written and intriguing when you switch narrator's nake sure they pronounce words the same way its very distracting.
