Publisher's summary

You made a promise to your sister. It could destroy your daughter.

The daughter

Fifteen-year-old Rosie lies in hospital fighting for her life. She’s trying to tell her mother what happened to her, but she can’t speak the words out loud.

The mother

Toni is a doting and over-protective mother, terrified for her daughter’s life. Having lost her husband in a tragic accident, Toni has dedicated her life to keeping Rosie safe from harm. She needs to know what secrets Rosie has been keeping and how she ended up in a hospital bed - but Toni has a secret of her own....

The pact

Thirty years ago, Toni and her sister, Bridget, made each other a promise: never to speak of their childhood; to protect each other without asking for help from others, no matter what....

But in order to save Rosie, Toni may have to break her lifelong promise to her sister...and open doors to her past she hoped would remain closed forever.

The Pact is a chilling psychological thriller about the lies we will tell to save our children. Perfect for fans of Gone Girl, Apple Tree Yard, and The Sister.

Great story...wrong title

Four lines into this story, my thought was "oh, this is going to be gooooood!" and I was not disappointed! I'm still a little confused by thr title though. I don't think "the pact" played a big enough role in the story to be the title that defined the whole thing. But good story all the same!

"OK"

I didn't love it and I didn't hate it. Slow to start and with a mediocre ending.

No decent men in sight

This is the story about a damaged over-protective widow/mother, her 15-year-old boy-crazed daughter and the widow's fierce lesbian sister. It is told in a series of dialogs between the widow/mother and the daughter with other third-party commentary regarding the sister (the daughter's aunt) and the daughter's agent. The men in the story are either child molesters or dead. While it's well written and has some exciting parts, it wasn't particularly my cup of tea.

One of a million story

I've read this book so many times before. If you like the genre it's fine just not extraordinary.

4 out of 5

I would give this story a 4 out of 5 rating. I liked the story line and I found it easy to listen to. The only thing I disliked was the teenage banter that had way too many "lol" and emoji descriptions. If that had been toned down a bit it would have been easier to take.

Just ok

I tried to love this book. I tried to get into it and stay into it but found myself having to rewind it because I lost track of what was even going on several times. It was an ok book. Not great, not heart stopping psychological thriller as I read elsewhere, not completely boring the whole time, but just ok. I figured out the twist a little while before it was revealed. I guess I expect more from books. This was my first novel from this author.

Possible spoiler

I had a hard time getting into the story until about halfway through, then I finally did. Now I’m trying to figure out what I missed that I didn’t know Toni was in a wheelchair! Left me feeling very confused.

Sometimes a Pact should have a time limit

Terrific story of sisters who make a lifelong pact. Interesting story about social media,, mystery and parenting. Is Toni parenting well? Should she listen more to her sister? It has numerous questions to ask yourself.

enjoyed the ride

as always there will be no spoilers in my reviews
this one was interesting. however it started out odd for me and honestly I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. it just wasn't grabbing me right away, that being said I was out of new books to read so I decided to give it a more concentrated listen very quickly it turned around and ended up a "page turner" although I did figure it out it wasn't till much later on but it didn't disappoint. I was still didn't see it all coming. Narrator did a Top Notch job. impressive. will watch for her with other books read by Tamsin Kennard
