Emotional Drama

In this excessively long novel there are some very good things. The courtroom drama is highly interesting; the complexity of the plot is excellent.
Unfortunately a large part of the book is devoted to a tedious buildup of the characters, following the development of two quite unpleasant, thoughtless and irresponsible children, and to the emotions of their parents. If the author had had the good sense to leave out essentially all of the retrospective details, the book would have been half the length and twice as compelling to listen to.
Also, the voice of the narrator was often unnecessarily and falsely dramatic. It would have been easier to listen to it with a better reader.

A good book start to finish.

Not her best but it's still Jodi Picoult. I really enjoyed this book. JP is such a good writer.

Not the usual

Once again Jodi Picoult has kept me engaged to the last word. It as the excellent plot and not knowing the truth until the very end. However, for me, there was entirely too much sex!! Not usual for Picoult. Waaay too much.

Huh?

Ending very dissatisfying. Not sure why it took so long to tell this non-story.

Listened to it in one weekend

I couldn’t stop listening to it. It consumed me. I had expected something different at the end. This is my first Jodi Picoult book. I will definitely listen to more!

Heartbreaking

This is such a tragic story. I do wish that there had been something written about Emily's diary and how her mom felt after reading it.

Disappointed

The ending is extremely disappointing. I stuck it out thinking that Emily’s true motives would become clear, that something would be exposed. But nothing. It seemed to me that Emily was hiding something else and I had my suspicions as to what it could be; some sort of abuse. Yet, Piccoult never explores that in the book. The ending with the blank note is just annoying and she says it doesn’t matter but it does since I’ve clearly wasted 16 hours listening to this book!

Suspenseful, Heart-wrenching & Sad

I don't do full reviews, but to summarize I thoroughly enjoyed, and it kept my interest throughout.

Worth the read.

This is a good story, not quite great. What drew me in and kept me listening til the end was the ease and lilt of my favorite narrator's voice in combination with the writings of a master storyteller.

I do not regret listening. This is simply one of those stories, for me personally, once I read it, I do not feel compelled to read more on the subject as I have with so many others nor do I feel a need to ever read this particular story again.

Give it a listen, perhaps you will love it as I am sure many do.
