Beautifully woven

As always, a hard hitting topic that will have you questioning your own beliefs and morals. Beautifully and tragically woven story.

I love this book

This book kept me guessing the whole time what actually happened. I was on a 14 hour road trip and it kept me entertained the whole time.

Another good book

Although this book didn't have the ending impact a few others did it was a great read. Well worth the time.

Depressing

This is an incredibly depressing story. The reading was well done, but the lesson learned shouldn't be learned. Killing yourself shouldn't be your only option.

Excellent!!!

I don't quite understand how a story could make me so cry so much and I was still sad when it finished. Ms Picoult expresses her characters' feelings so realistically. The narration from Mr Guidall is once again superb!

I highly recommend this story but be prepared to cry. 😉

Oh my God...

Never have I been so wrapped up in a story as I have been with ‘The Pact’. Powerful, captivating, riveting, addictive, passionate, romantic, surreal, heartwarming. There was only one way that it could end but it seemed eternity getting there, yet I patiently hung on each word, until the last. Realizing that it was a novel and yet knowing how true the story - at least parts of it - could be for many, including me. The narrator was exceptional and believable. Thank you for composing such an incredible read.

Extraordinary

I rarely buy a book about A love story. This book totally surprised me. I’ve purchased hundreds of books with this being one of my favorite. I’m a semi retired lawyer and extremely impressed with the depiction of the legal/trial aspects. Of course the narrator was awesome. Unfortunately I’ll probably by some love stories I hate because of this one.

Riveting story

Picoult is a master at detailed setting and characterization. The story was fascinating and well researched and conveyed. I would have preferred a straightforward narration. Guidall’s representation of female voices, while consistent, was distracting. As a therapist, I think it is imperative to include an afterword about suicide- about never under any circumstances keeping it a secret - to fight for life. Suicide felt romanticized here and that is dangerous.

Unconvincing storyline

The premise is perhaps believable – a teen lovers’ pact. But so much of the story is not. No one, not even the lawyer asks what really happened?? The courtroom conversations and rulings — really?? And the narrator speeds up his voice so much in an attempt to be in character that I thought the narration was at 1.5 speed. I did not enjoy his effeminate voice.
