Publisher's summary

The most ancient name for Christianity, Metropolitan Kallistos reminds us, is "the Way" (cf. Acts 19.23; 24.22), and it is precisely as the journey that this word implies that he presents the tradition of Orthodox Christianity, its teachings, and its practices. The result is not an abstract presentation of "Orthodoxy", an outside look at, or description of, its dogmatics, rituals, and ascetic disciplines, compared to and contrasted with others, but an invitation to enter into the way, to begin the journey—and to do so always, into eternity—into the mystery of God through the living experience of the Orthodox Church.

As Metropolitan Kallistos often points out, just as undertaking a journey into an unfamiliar land or climbing a mountain requires an experienced and knowledgeable guide, so also an experienced and trusted spiritual guide, a mystagogue, is needed for the spiritual journey, to ascend Mount Sinai and encounter the mysterious God in its darkness, and to climb Mount Tabor and behold the mystery of the transfigured Lord, and to be initiated into the mysteries of the Jerusalem above, our Mother, the Church. The Orthodox Way is such a guide, a book that takes the listener into the very mystery of God, and now speaks to us, in a new century and a new edition.

New edition with a foreword by Fr. John Behr. The SVS Press audiobook program is sponsored by The Orthodox Vision Foundation. If you are interested in sponsoring the creation of an SVS Press audiobook, please contact us at media@svots.edu.

Really good!

This book is a great introduction to Orthodox Christianity! I recommend it for those curious about the faith as well as those raised Orthodox but who have never delved deeply into its tenets.

An Orthodox Christian Classic

I would have loved to hear the author read his work, since he has a distince voice and British accent. The content is clear, thorough and superb! A real inspiration for living a Christian life.

Offers many questions that beg much thought.

The Orthodox Way highlights the uniqueness of Eastern Orthodoxy, the Devine Unknowable Mysteries. The Experience of Finding God. Who Christ is for us. Much emphasis on the discipline of observing the Sacraments. Man’s casual fight wit Sin, but most of all it champions endurance to the end, for a life lived to and for Christ Jesus.

Great explanations

This book brings the heady theologies and philosophies of the Orthodox Church into understandable and approachable language. I will listen to this again and again and find something new each time.

ENJOYED THIS GREATLY.

I am not Eastern Orthodox but I am trying to learn and understand the journey this precious faith in Christ has been on. This is well done and covers deep subjects very well. One must keep engaged with the reading, for each sentence contains needed information for correct understanding. Callistos Ware is a persuasive writer and obviously well read. I do recommend it to westerners looking to understand this rich heritage and orthodox faith.
