About this listen

Film and TV star Keke Palmer tenderly shares the Ojibwe folk tale of the first dreamcatcher and shows how its message of our connection to the natural world persists to this day.

Bedtime stories are narrated by the world’s most celebrated voices and written with no beginning, middle, or end so you don’t stay up to hear what happens next. They're interesting enough to give your mind something to focus on, but delivered in a way that encourages sleep.

This title is part of The Audible Sleep Collection, exclusive audio experiences created to help you fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake up in the right morning mindset. New and free for members.

About the author: Linda LeGarde Grover is a member of the Bois Forte Band of Ojibwe and professor of American Indian studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth. She is an author of fiction, poetry, research articles, newspaper columns, and essays. Her publications include The Dance Boots, which received the Flannery O’Connor Award and the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize; The Road Back to Sweetgrass, which received the Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers & Storytellers Fiction Award; The Sky Watched: Poems of Ojibwe Lives, which received the Northeastern Minnesota Book Award for Poetry; and her essay collection, Onigamiising: Seasons of an Ojibwe Year, which received the Minnesota Book Award for Creative Nonfiction and Memoir. Linda lives in Duluth, where she was born, and where she is currently researching intersections of traditional Ojibwe stories with regional Ojibwe history and the natural world.

Beautiful story

A beautiful legend about the history of the dream catcher. The details are so vivid I could visualize the the story as it unfolded. Now I want an original Ojibwe dream catcher.

Origin of the "Dream Catcher"

Loved hearing how this native American legend may have begun. The story was very detailed, to help the reader imagine it. The super quiet whispering voice of the narrator, was hard to hear. Not all parts of this story needed whispering.

I recommend this story! Great story and narration!

I’m an chronic night owl and there are nights that I have a hard time falling asleep and my mind just won’t settle down. Those are the nights that I listen to this story and I usually fall asleep. I have rarely had to listen to the story a second time. The narration is great and Keke Palmer’s voice is perfect for this story to listen to and lull you to sleep. I truly recommend this story! I wish that she did more narrations.

Worked too well

I have yet to hear the entire story! I have started this 4 times, and always fall asleep before the end. Last night I played it for my 10yr old daughter and we both fell asleep. Keke has such a soothing tone, It's very relaxing, perfect for my after work brain at 10 am.
