Publisher's summary

Living is hard on the high lonesome, but dying is easy.

When two of Nick Drake’s oldest Paiute friends disappear during a robbery of ancient relics that leads to a double murder, his race to find them puts him on a collision course with an obsessed killer. And that’s only for starters. A plane crash on a snowy mountainside after a wedding and with a baby on the way leads to a desperate fight for survival. Only one outcome is certain: Life will never be the same for Nick, Gemma, Pudge, November, and the other characters who listeners have come to love in this spellbinding mystery series.

Listen as a stand-alone or as part of the series.

Award-winning author Dwight Holing draws on his deeply rooted connection to the American West and understanding of the natural world to create a masterful story. With memorable characters and prose that crackles like the unforgiving setting, the suspense builds and drives The Nowhere Bones to a climax as powerful as a force of nature.

Two stories in one

4/5 you get two stories in one with this one. Survival from a plane crash that includes a birth of a child and in the other story a search for a killer on of a professor at an archeological dig site. Both are good and leave you wanting more

a modern Western set 40 years ago but contemporary

the author has a great sense of the time period is writing about and the progressiveness of the issues of the day. he paints some wonderful pictures of the pie people and the area and Harding county and then weaves a wonderful plot in mystery story. looking forward to the next book in the further development of the characters.

They Just Keep Getting Better!

I have listened to them all (Audible). Dwight Holing is masterful. This book, for the first time made Jemma (since I have listened I am not sure about the spelling)into a delightful three dimensional woman. A great book in the CJBox, William Kent Kruger vein...write me another please.

The narration here is the best I've ever heard,

I've become a huge fan of Mr. Holing and his Nick Drake series.

Hat's off to Mr. Holing for a superb, vast, relevant, epic tale. Like McGarrity in scope,
like Michael Connelly in specific police procedural, like Edward Abbey in his love of the vast
West.

I caution anyone who has not, to start with the 1st book and work your way up.

Now to the narrator: The story puts huge weight on Mr. Leggett's getting the characters
just right and expressing a level of emotion I don't hear in many narrators. Mr. Leggett
has done it perfectly. His contribution increases the value of the listen immensely,

Even my all-time favorite, George Guidall, may not have delivered like Leggett did.

Keep'em coming, Mr. Holing.

Enchanting

I found this fifth book in the "Nick Drake" series by Dwight Holing to be captivating, intriguing, and educational. I always look forward to the next book coming out in this series. As always, the author is very adept in the history of Harney County, Oregon, and the Native Americans who have lived there. Narrator Charles Legget did an excellent job.
