A 2022 Audie Award Finalist

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Then She Was Gone comes “her best thriller yet” (Harlan Coben, New York Times bestselling author) about a young couple’s disappearance on a gorgeous summer night, and the mother who will never give up trying to find them.

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend.

One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate. Known locally as the Dark Place, the dense forest is the writer’s favorite place for long walks and it’s on one such walk that she stumbles upon a mysterious note that simply reads, “DIG HERE.”

Could this be a clue towards what has happened to the missing young couple? And what exactly is buried in this haunted ground?

“Utterly gripping with richly drawn, hugely compelling characters, this is a first-class thriller with heart” (Lucy Foley, New York Times bestselling author) that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Critic reviews

"Froggatt works to bring distinctive voices to the key players and is particularly effective at voicing Kim, who is now caring for her grandson because her daughter has disappeared. She also shifts effortlessly to the posh accents of the wealthy neighbors. Jewell provides listeners with appealing and well-rounded personalities and atmospheric settings. This thriller will keep listeners engaged." (AudioFile Magazine)

Fantastic narration

Well done all around. Finally a reader who can do multiple voices without it being cringe.

Slow burn in the best way

Def a slow burn, but the characters are amazing. You find reasons to like all of them but also to dislike them because they’re written so well. Each is flawed and complex.

So Freaking Good!!

I'm a huge Lisa Jewell fan, loving most of her titles and disliking a couple. BUT PEOPLE, GET THIS BOOK! I could not stop listening and was soooo sad when it was over. Amazing character development, unpredictable plot (you have an idea towards the end before it's fully revealed but that's because of the way the author lets the story unfold--so good), awesome narration...I just loved it!!!

Best book I've heard in a while

The story had me from the start. Lots of twists, well told. All was enhanced by Joanne Froggatt's amazing reading. I could listen to her read the phone book and be entertained!
