A Translation of the Good News of Jesus for Everyone

If the Bible cannot be understood by everyone, then it is not good news. But from the very first days of the church at Pentecost, the good news of Jesus was translated into languages of everyday people through the power of the Holy Spirit, spreading like wildfire to the ends of the earth. Many modern readers and listeners of the New Testament have grown overly familiar with the biblical text, losing sight of the wonder and breadth of its innovative ideas and world-changing teachings about the life and role of Jesus of Nazareth.

The New Testament for Everyone is an updated translation of the New Testament by renowned biblical scholar and author N.T. Wright, which builds upon on the work done in N. T. Wright’s The Kingdom New Testament. This audio edition read by N.T. Wright himself, features slight translation revisions from N. T. Wright along with new book introductions—providing a fresh and dynamic translation of the New Testament for the next generation. The language used in this translation seeks to convey the meaning of the original Greek while also being accessible to the modern listener, making it a valuable resource for scholars, pastors, and laypeople alike.

A fresh take

Man, I just appreciated being able to listen to the Bible in a comfortable speaking tone. Wrights voice really is easy to sit back with a cup of tea and relax with.

As far as translation, having finished the whole NTFE, this won’t be my new Bible translation when prepping sermons or doing studies (I’m a pastor) but it will be a version I cycle through with my others and listen to while on bicycle rides during my morning and evening commutes.

Thanks for the resource Tom! Indeed, a fresh translation!

Love the fact that it has book and chapter numbers listed. One of my favorite translations.

A must-have for your library.,

And actually VERY ENTERTAINING because it’s updated with flowing prose. NT Wright is an excellent translator and EXCELLENT READER! (Almost unbelievable, a miracle even!?).
I wish the sample included some verses. You can tell that his voice is excellent for storytelling but I had no idea that the Gospels were such exciting stories!

A few points. Obviously the New Testament has to get 5 stars. Anything less would be blasphemy probably.
“Everyone” has a copy of the Bible in their library. But what if you want to hear it rather than flip flimsy pages? An Audible Bible version is needed for any basic library anyway but this one is really fun to listen to!
It’s sorted by chapter just as the KJV or NIV etc. Easy to find a passage you want. But it is not subdivided in “verses” which would interrupt the flow.
If you overheard this NT playing somewhere, you would not recognize that the Bible is being read. You’d wonder why it seemed so familiar like your favorite childhood storybook. Yet NT Wright took minimal liberties in updating from the original Greek, perhaps changing some archaic idioms and even arranging a rhyme for sayings which were probably poetic in the original. It’s masterful. As it must be, every word is (again) inspired by God.

I’m so thankful for this recording

I’ve learned to trust Tom’s voice over the years and this is wonderful. The book introductions aren’t placed quite right. The first 10 seconds are placed at the end of the previous book so the chapters aren’t easy to navigate.

The ease of listening to large portions of Scripture.

Subtitles interference with the text. While they are helpful for some, it interrupts the flow for me, somewhat.

Excellent translation

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to NT Wright read his own translation. As I would listen to complete books during drive time and walks, I was able see the entire forest instead of individual trees.

Wonderful translation and narration!

This is a powerful and moving translation of the New Testament. I'm usually not a fan of authors reading their own works, as the professional audible readers are usually much better, but in this case NT Wright does a great job.
