About this listen

Die Hard in a gated community.”—Chris Hauty, national bestselling author of Deep State and Storm Rising

From the critically acclaimed author of Overwatch and other titles in the Logan West Thriller series, comes a can’t-miss, brand-new thriller that proves Matthew Betley is the modern master of the unputdownable thriller.

It was supposed to be just another ordinary night …

What happens when your neighborhood harbors a secret so destructive that dangerous men are willing to kill for it?

Welcome to Hidden Refuge, a normal American subdivision full of normal American suburbanites. At least that’s what the citizens thought before men impersonating police officers show up on their doorsteps in the middle of the night. Once the entire community is under siege, so begins a long, dark night that will prove to be anything but ordinary.

But Zack Chambers, suburban family man and programmer by trade, has his own secret. One he had dearly hoped that he’d never need to use again. The deadly ex-CIA agent and trained operative plots to take back the night, doing whatever it takes to protect his neighborhood.

In the face of a small army of trained killers, he’s got his wits, his babysitter, his equally lethal brother, and a ragtag group of neighbors willing to help.

Action-packed and relentless with twists and turns and old scores to be settled, this propulsive and brilliantly plotted can’t-miss thriller brings a shocking end you won’t see coming. Fans of Matthew Betley’s trademark blend of gritty realism and edge-of-your-seat action will be delighted.

Good Story Telling

Liked the story but not the flash back moments. Needed stay in the present time.

The performance was excellent.

I have always enjoyed the break neck action and attention to detail. It reminds me of the Scarecrow novels by Reilly.

☆George, you are my favorite narrator. ☆
Mathew, I love your writing style. Detailed, understandable & exciting. I listened straight through to the end. I love how the story unfolds and how the value of military training still brings life to their souls. Huge thanks for a GREAT book.

Nice story with historical memories.

The narrator is amazing. I listen to him on some other books, and he does such an outstanding job. The book itself is an interesting story about life after service that he continues to haunt good book will look for the next episode, when released.

Great Performance

Voice reminded me of Ed Harris. Good story, but does require attention to keep timeline and players straight. Would definitely be interested in more by this author and this voice actor.

Thrilling

The Neighborhood by Matthew Betley is now one of my favorite books. This novel was electrifying, riveting, astounding, and high-voltage. The narrator, George Newbern, was impeccable.

so much better than the first one

this is the second effort by this author and he has improved immensely. he answered all the the questions a story needs. he had a direction and he stuck to it. the characterizations were excellent and the way he maneuvered them on the story board was very good although a little confusing in places. the repetition was annoying but not too much, it was tolerably.

the narrator was very good but oftentimes he got wrapped up in the story and forgot to distinguish his voices so the rest of us could follow along.

I hope the next book is five stars.

Great performance!

I listen to 200+ books a year, and this performance was very well done. The plot was well conceived.
