About this listen

From the author of the Amazon best seller Wildfell, comes a new novel of supernatural suspense.

Claire Vogel is a recently divorced mother of four girls and a successful counselor living in a planned and prestigious community. She knows all her neighbors, and they know her. But Claire has a secret. To cope with hidden, deep-rooted pain, she often participates in risky, reckless behavior.

When the mysterious Steel Nolan moves in next door to Claire, their flirtation quickly develops into a deeper attraction. But soon after, Claire and her children contend with sleepwalking, shadow men, and disembodied voices. As Claire begins to remember childhood memories and learns more about her new neighbor's past, her concern for her children's safety grows. Is Steel Nolan the man of her dreams...or the stuff of nightmares?

Terrifying and disturbing, The Neighbor explores the thrill of danger, the depths of evil, and the dark and sinister elements that can haunt us for a lifetime.

Solid demonic novel

I thought this was much more compelling than The Meadows (another novel of Clarke's). Even predictable elements came with thrilling little twists that kept me engaged. Tidy ending and narration that doesn't distract.

CW: abuse, sexual assault, pedophilia

Good story

The lady in the story really gets me upset but this is a good listen. Not totally scary but a little creepy. Thanks

wouldn't read again if I had the chance.

first of all the narrator was completely terrible. that made me almost not listen to the story at all. besides that the story was decent. had a good scary side to it. it took a little while until the good stuff picked up. overall the book was a strong 3. narrator a strong 0. sounds like she was tired and bored of the story. And her voice was so annoying. and slow. yuck

This book would have been better if I read it myself. the narrator isn't bad, but not really good either.

Excellent book! The perfect mix of thriller and horror. Creepy, but in a good way!

Engrossing and fast paced!

I listened to this book in just a few days during work and it was awesome. Creepy, interesting with just that supernatural touch that I enjoy the hell out of. The narrator was fantastic and kept me listening. Im very happy I spent a credit on this. I read the horror subreddit religiously to find books I haven’t heard of. This is one of the few that I have truly enjoyed. Most are spent word vomiting page after page of descriptions that bore me silly. Take a chance and get this audiobook.

Great combo of a domestic/paranormal thriller

The beginning of the book reads like the start of a domestic thriller, which I'm 100% a fan of. It soon shifts into an eerie horror story that will keep you wanting more. Great narration performance kept me hooked as well. Loved it!

Haunting!!

This has been one of the best stories of haunting and evil horror that I have read in a long time! It captures the realism and terror of the most memorable horror films, demonstrating the effects of evil and malignant and malicious entities on those directly affected, simultaneously showing how the outside world views those actions as crazy or mentally ill.
The main character encompasses that theme personally, having experienced the circumstances as an outsider and as someone with direct experience. The author creates a fiction that is completely believable, making it that much more haunting!
The narrator’s tone, voice, and emotion greatly enhanced the experience of the narrative. Often a great story, experienced on audio rather than being read personally can be ruined by poor or overly dramatic narration, this is certainly not the case in this instance! This audio book is completely worth the time and the credit!!

Could have been better

I was expecting a little more . It took too long to get to the point. The narrator could have been a little more exciting. I felt she didn’t give the book much justice. If she did maybe it would have been better to me.

Chilling, heart-aching, paranormal horror-suspense

Having read Clarke’s other books, I was intrigued by the storyline for The Neighbor, which appeared to be a slight departure from her other books. I was not disappointed–This book delivers through a skilled and intimate narration which left me cringing and near tears at times. I was only able to listen to it in 20 minute increments–yes, it is that intense. I could literally feel the horror and anxiety of the lead character as she fought the demons–both personal and literal.

If you are looking for a thrill ride with twists and turns that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your own sanity then The Neighbor fits the bill.
