About this listen

"Listening to Grover Gardner narrating a David Rosenfelt novel is like sliding into favorite slippers at the end of a long day: One feels the joyful gratification of a perfect fit."—AudioFile on Bark of Night

The next installment in David Rosenfelt’s bestselling Andy Carpenter series brings a lone pup to his doorstep, but when it comes to dogs, The More the Terrier.

Reluctant lawyer Andy Carpenter is relieved to be headed back to Paterson, New Jersey, after a week-long family vacation in the Adirondacks. He's ready to put the holly jolly season way behind him and settle in at home with his three dogs. But when they finally arrive, there is an extra dog eagerly awaiting them, as well as one anxious dog sitter.

When the dog showed up on the doorstep a few days ago, the sitter knew Andy would know what to do. Indeed, Andy recognizes Murphy, who the Carpenters fostered before the dog went home with BJ Bremer and his mother. BJ wanted to learn all he could about caring for Murphy, which made Andy like him immediately.

When Andy goes to take Murphy back to the Bremers, though, instead of the happy reunion he expects, he finds BJ's mother in tears. It turns out Murphy ran off…after BJ was arrested for murder. Andy had hoped for a quiet Christmas vacation, but he likes Murphy’s family and his golden retriever, Tara, likes Murphy, so he can't resist getting involved. The case isn’t as simple as Andy thought it would be, though, with BJ suspected of murdering one of his professors. With nothing to go on but Andy's own conviction in BJ's dog-loving character, proving his innocence would be a Christmas miracle.

With equal doses of doggy humor and courtroom drama, as well as Andy Carpenter's traditional humbug Christmas spirit, David Rosenfelt delivers another winner.

The plot in general

Love the adventures of Andy Carpenter and his team! Always at least 1 twist and this story had several! Also keeps my interest so it’s hard to put down!

perfect series

As all of the Andy Carpenter books they're so good... My only complaint is I finish them way too fast 😜📚. If you're looking for dry humor and a good mystery / some lite murder, this would definitely be in your wheelhouse, especially if you like dogs.

Not much dog activity

Love that most familiar characters were present. Now that Ricky is a teenager it will be interesting to see what mischief he gets into.

My favorite Author and Favorite Narrator

I love the Andy Carpenter series and have read all of them. Grover Gardener is the best narrator and is great at depicting Andy. I always look forward to the next book and hope they keep coming.

Thank you David, your humor, saying the obvious, being the justice for the under dog. Another one that made me smile

Top Notch as always

David Rosenfeld through Andy Carpenter makes me laugh out loud. I’ve enjoyed every book in this series and hope to enjoy more. I might like one of his other books but I’m afraid I would expect Andy’s wit.

The metaverse, Marcus Clark, and the Russian mob

unputdownable, unpleasant-victims, multiple-murder, local-law-enforcement, FBI, snark-fest, verbal-humor, framed, drug-trafficking, drugs-issues, investigations, investigators, friendship, family, thriller, threats, suspense, abductions, animal-rescue, teamwork, lawyers, courtroom-drama, dogs, laugh-out-loud, Russian-mob*****

This time it's a former rescue dog who enlists Carpenter's help to clear the charge of murder from his owner, the young Rutgers student accused of bashing a professor's head in thereby acquiring a murder charge.
Andy is still trying to retire from lawyering and just co-run the dog rescue and be a husband and dad. Andy, his ex-cop wife Laurie, Sam the computer genius, Marcus Clark the invincible, the K-Team of retired K-9 Simon Garfunkle with his ex-cop handler turned PI and others work hard to clear that young man framed for murder and uncover a real rat's nest of crooks. They find a shady lawyer, a drug trafficker, some unscrupulous VR players in the metaverse, the FBI, and even the Russian mob.
Don't know how Rosenfelt does it, but each book is totally unputdownable (and laugh your sox off funny). If you've never tried this series, any of the books can easily be read out of order so just drop in anywhere and have a good read while laughing your sox off! This is NOT an unbiased review! I love the Andy Carpenter and K-Team books! The stories are imaginative, somewhat plausible, totally engaging, and off-set reality despite how close to the news some of them can be.
Andy Carpenter is a wise-mouthed lawyer who can afford to take semi-retirement by only representing innocent clients while co-owning a dedicated rescue shelter for dogs. Add in that his wife is no longer law enforcement but works as his private investigator and more and you have the baseline for these convoluted mysteries. There are many other people who help Andy find out what the truth really is and make it courtroom admissible (The K-Team). The mysteries are always intriguing, and I cackled my way through the whole thing (again)!
I requested and received a temporary EARC from St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books via NetGalley. Thank you! Available 15 October, 2024
I have already preordered the audio narrated by the talented Grover Gardner!

The new type of Andy Caroenter

I loved the story. Of course the narration is perfect!
Something new was the part narrative and part first person form of story telling. I’m really not sure if I liked that or not.
