I sense a bestseller…

Deservedly so… 5 strangers end up on a uncharted island by way of one bad decision. Now they have to survive.. together, or every person for themselves?
I found the subject although it’s been done in many ways, this was different. Interesting, realistic, sad, some romance. I was immersed throughout the book.
The narration was so good I got totally lost and forgot it was all Nicol. I have a sort of girl crush on her so she can do no wrong but she truly is talented. Grats to be author for finally giving us a good book!!!!

Beautifully Done

I read the arc for this book before the original publication, and I don’t think I have ever been so excited for a book. I won the opportunity to be a character in this book!

I bought this book on Audible while it was the book of the day and got it for an absolute steal. I figured, why not? It’s my book!

I love the characters. They are so well developed and vastly different from each other, but I love that their differences help unite them.

Ava is young and spunky, she isn’t afraid to speak her mind, but she also has an extreme naïveté to her that makes her vulnerable.

James is more brawn than brain in most situations, but he does have a heart of gold when he decides to show it. Quick to anger and skepticism, James isn’t afraid of making a tough decision.

Harry is such a soft, pure, beautiful soul. He is incredibly book smart; he knows so much about things most people wouldn’t have a clue about. Generous and kind, Harry truly wants the best for everyone.

Noah is like a pit bull- he may look and sound vicious, but he is such a genuine soul. Kind, caring, and protective, he isn’t afraid to do what he feels is right, no matter what.

Our main narrator is fierce. She’s intelligent but also the keeper of the peace. She tends to see the good in everyone and tries to be optimistic no matter her situation.

The premise for this story is terrifying. To think that a simple boat ride could end with being stranded on an island with strangers is the stuff of nightmares.

The narrator, Nicol Zanzarella, did an excellent job bringing this novel to life. She created every emotion so vividly, and she captured this book in a completely new way.

I enjoyed this novel so much. I loved the characters, the plot, the twist, and the ending. I was pleased with the narration as well.

Now I need part two: No Longer Missing, Cara meets her dad, justice is served, and each family gets told their loved one was murdered, and of course, a well deserved happily ever after. Come on, KMod… we all know you’re a wizard with surprise part 2’s!!

Enjoyed the Story

I really enjoyed the book and the story line but I’m not fond of the narrator at all.

Good story

I think I would have appreciated a bit less dramatic narrator. And the woman of the story being stronger, not so emotional about everything. But it was a good story.

"Watching that boat sail away, knowing we were stranded on the island, was just the beginning. We had no idea what was coming." ─ Kiersten Modglin, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈

Would you like a free boat ride? There's free food, free drinks and lots of people having fun...it couldn't hurt. And there should be no reason to be worried. Right?

Five people, unknown to each other are all asked the same question. "Would like a free boat ride?" These same five people will soon be dropped off on a "deserted" island and left there. With no answers on why, no food, no fresh water and no cell service. They are forced to fend for themselves and soon find out that only one of them is expected to survive, because the only way off this island is for everyone to die except for one.

Someone is lying. Someone is hiding a terrible secret. They’d all do anything to get home… Wouldn’t they?

The plot to this story was fantastic and original. Think "𝑯𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝑮𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔" but for bored rich people. Or that 2020 movie "𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑯𝒖𝒏𝒕". The characters were likeable enough and each had their own thing. There were some pretty surprising twists. My only down part about this book was the thing with Noah at the end. To me it was pretty far-fetched, sure it makes for a happy ending but still unplausible in my opinion. I still really enjoyed this mysterious psychological thriller and do look forward to reading more by this author.

I Enjoyed This

It's not the deepest thing ever written, but the story is handled well, the characters are pretty well-developed and engaging, especially the central voice. It's a good telling of the ' strangers on a desert island' idea, with a couple of interesting twists that are handled well. The narration is good, and you care what happens. All 'Round - good, solid entertainment.

Could Not Stop Listening & Finished in One Day!

I started this book Sunday morning and was pulled in immediately and ended up keeping my earbuds in and listened to the book while I did my spring yardwork, then through laundry and cooking dinner. I had to stop to have dinner with my husband but then right back to the book!

When I first started the book, I was thinking of the series "Lost" and making some comparisons. At one point in the book there is a line in the story stating, "this is not like the series Lost". So that blew that theory for me, which made the story even more interesting because I was wrong and had not figured it out. And when you find out what the heck is really going on...well...wow!

The main reason I got this book was because the storyline reminded me of the book, New Year Island by Paul Draker, So, if you enjoyed The Missing, you will probably really like New Year Island as well.

So much potential

Like The Island of Dr Moreau and The Most Dangerous Game, the premise of this book could have led to a masterpiece. Instead, the characters on the island are flat, inane, overly dramatic and downright stupid. One would think that after 20 years of Survivor, Naked and Afraid, Alone and other programs like that, the author would know that securing water is the first thing you’d do, that starting fire with only green vegetation and no matches is incredibly difficult, that one person killing a wild boar with only a machete, while emerging unscathed and carrying the carcass cheerfully back to camp is simply absurd. This is most ridiculous book that I have ever finished. I wanted to see how it ended and how Modglin tied it all together. There was a genuine surprise near the end and some interesting characters. But the very end reverted to unrealistic melodrama. Having tried to write a novel myself, I know how difficult it is. Modglin had a good premise and a few truly good moments, but on the whole missed the mark. It’s a shame she didn’t continue to edit and revise. It could have been so much better.

Implausible

While the story had good character development and some suspense, it was ruined by being implausible in several ways.
