On the first day, you feel great. New clothes, new sneakers, new trainer, a 20-session pack of boot camp classes... new everything! The workout is tough. You’re out of shape. But it’s fun. You drag yourself to the mirror afterward and say, “I’m doing this!” The second day... There’s soreness in body parts that you didn't know could be sore. Your body is reminding you how long it’s been since it worked this hard. The third day... Things are...different.

Story
Setting goals and working hard are requirements for achievement. Many people falsely believe that's all there is to it. If that’s all it takes, why are so few people successful? There’s more - much more - to you reaching all your goals than just having them and working every day. The good news is, I know the exact formula for creating anything you want in life. I explain in detail how and why it works.

The questions we ask ourselves determine our lives. Our thoughts are nothing more than a continuous question-and-answer session we have with ourselves. Our lives - material, emotional, spiritual, and financial - are a direct reflection of our thoughts. Eighty-five percent of these thoughts are both habitual and unconscious. Meaning, we are asking and answering the exact same questions every day, usually in the same way over and over again.

Story
The mental game is everything. How you approach your life mentally - your attitude - will have more impact on your success than your physical tools and abilities. In life, there are many people on both sides of the achievement spectrum: Those who perform well above their means, and those who achieve well below what their "tools" would suggest. How each of these people approaches the game of life, mentally, is the reason for each success or failure. What I am going to do with this book is touch on all the issues.

Do you ride the escalator or do you take the stairs? No matter how you define success, it always requires one thing: self-discipline. But as popular speaker and strategist Rory Vaden explains, we live in an "escalator world", one that's filled with shortcuts, quick fixes, and distractions that make it all too easy to slide into procrastination, compromise, and mediocrity. What seems like an easier path is really much harder in the end - and, most important, it won't take you where you want to go.

Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Words. We use them all the time, every day, mostly without giving them much thought at all. We take for granted that they’re here at our disposal whenever we need them. But if you’ve ever wished you could communicate more effectively, words are the place to start. It’s incumbent upon you to choose the best words to accomplish your goals, because how you choose to communicate influences—well, everything! The power of communication shapes our professional goals, our relationships, and our lives—so the words we choose to use carry a great deal of power.

A gold mine of guidance
I would recommend this author be listened to, or read, by all persons, especially young people.
Heck, I wish I’d had someone clue me in to this guidance on making the most of yourself when I was young!
I like how Dre Baldwin speaks frankly; no long stories to make a short point. His delivery is no nonsense, but not insulting. I felt like the author was all about teaching me how to respect myself and innate abilities. Also found the material encouraging.
If you, or someone you know needs an effective primer on how and why having a strong work ethic is key to a good life, this will do it.

Mirror of Motivation
If you haven't read any of Dre Baldwin's books, they're generally direct, concise, and clear. This one is no exception. However, this doesn't diminish the value of this book. The Mirror of Motivation is a great tool to use in increasing self discipline and recognizing your goals. If you use the lessons in it, it can help change your outlook, mindset, and self belief. I would recommend for sure.

Content ok...Delivery, Meh.
Much of the content was fine. I made notes when something’s stuck out. I think another narrator would have been much better. When he made a reference to drug dealers packaging products for their work, he lost me. I was done. I listened to the rest because I paid for it but that inference should have NEVER made the book. Period.
