Publisher's summary

In this spellbinding sequel to The Mystwick School of Musicraft bursting with music and mystery, Amelia must master the magic of Composing to help her school win a magic competition - and save her friends from a mysterious evil.

Things are finally looking up for Amelia Jones: She's officially a Mystwick student, and she even has a teacher to help her learn how to use her rare Composing magic. When Mystwick enters an international magic competition, it’s Amelia's chance to Compose something that will help them win the day. The only problem is that she still doesn’t understand how her powers work. But then she hears about a super exclusive Midnight Orchestra - half performance, half magical black market - and Amelia is sure that’s where she’ll find the answer to her Composing problem.

But the Midnight Orchestra is far more sinister than it initially appears, and if Amelia can’t unlock her Composing powers, not only will Mystwick lose the musicraft competition, she won’t be able to rescue her friends from the danger unleashed in this thrilling adventure.

Great follow up to a great book.

I'll be honest this is the first audiobook where I got upset with the protagonist because of decisions she was making because I was so interested in her, her friends and the story. I had to keep reminding my self that she is a 13 year old girl still navagating a very complex situation. I hardly made good decisions at that age. This book picks up two weeks after the first book and has more twist and turns(I only got one right). I hope book 3 comes out soon can't wait.

Beautiful story

My kids and I love these stories. My six year old saw this story on my library list and demanded we listen immediately after completing the Wingfeather saga on the road trip we recently took.

The Mystwick books are beautifully written and performed. This fantasy series cleverly makes the heroes’ magic derive from musical skill. This sets the stories apart from other “coming of age” fantasy series about gifted kids in boarding schools.

This particular book, The Midnight Orchestra, tenderly deals with the strong emotions a child feels when abandoned by the adults she needs. For me, it felt a bit like a series of therapy sessions intertwined with an exciting and funny story. This book what children’s literature should be—fun, beautiful, imaginative, healing, wholesome, and true. The end of the book gives hints that the story is not yet complete so we are eagerly anticipating future volumes. Five stars.

Fabulous Sequel

The continuation of Amelia's story was gripping, exciting, and is following a beautiful trajectory. The accompaniment makes the book to life. Is it too soon to look for a trilogy?

A wonderful sequel.

An good sequel to the first, full of familiar characters and fun and interesting new ones. Thoroughly can't wait for the physical edition. These books are definitely a permanent stay on my comfort read/ reread list, as well as one I'd recommend.
