About this listen

When Steffi Lockwood returns to Sanctuary Sound to start over, she has no idea she’ll also get a second chance with her first love.

Steffi Lockwood has survived more than most. Recovering from an assault, she returns to her coastal Connecticut hometown to rebuild her life the best way she knows how: with her hands. But starting a remodeling business with one longtime friend puts her in the middle of a rift with another. Worse, being hired by her ex-boyfriend’s mother forces her to confront old regrets.

Public defender Ryan Quinn wasn’t shocked when his wife left him, but he was floored when she abandoned their daughter. With his finances up in the air, the newly single dad returns to his childhood home in Sanctuary Sound. The last person he expects, or wants, to see working on his family house is Steffi Lockwood - his first love who shattered his heart.

Although Steffi and Ryan are different people now, dormant feelings rekindle. But when Steffi’s secrets begins to surface, will it bring them together...or tear them apart for good?

Disappointing ending

I loved everything about this book. I fell head over heels for all the characters. It’s a shame the author built up Stephanie’s trauma without allowing us to walk through the resolution. Having a recap in the epilogue wasn’t satisfying.

Second Chance Romance

This is the first book that I've read/listened to by Jamie Beck. I picked it from the Kindle Unlimited with audio program. I liked it enough that I wanted to see how it turned out, but it was quite depressing overall. Steffi's friends were awful. I didn't see enough of them to make me want to read their stories. The way Ryan and his ex-wife interacted along with Emmy's actions were my favorite parts of the story. I kept thinking I wanted to just move on to another audio, but kept restarting it anyway.

Dara Rosenberg did a good job narrating. She has a nice voice. At times, when restarting the audio, I was unsure who was speaking and had to concentrate to figure out where I had left off.

Enjoyable

Although this story wasn't what I was i thought it woyld be. It turned out to be more. The original premise, I thought was a little week. Yet as I listened on. I began to understand. Give ut a chance.

Good Story

Ryan and Steffi's story is full of ups, downs and healing on many levels. A very emotional story that had me rooting for that happy ending and I wasn't disappointed.

A Joy from Beginning to End

I loved this engaging story about a young woman who comes to terms with memories -- some beautiful and others, unimaginable. Beck handles delicate topics with honestly and grace. The actions and reactions of her characters ring true. The backdrop of a quaint Connecticut down--complete with a charming cottage remodel--is bonus.

Sweet Romantic Story

First, the narration was excellent.
Second, the story and plot are sweet though predictable. The young lovers who broke up and make it back together later is sweet. The author added some interesting twists and turns the the story to keep it going.
So, if you are looking for a good romance story this one fits the bill.
It wasn't what I was looking for though so I'm gave her t a lesser rating.

Aweful Narrator

Jamie Beck is a tremendous writer who excellently incorporates real life issues and healing into this sweet romance.

However, the narrator for this was horrible. She made the book painful to listen to.

Enjoyable, Romantic, and many things to learn

Very good read. Interesting subjects were approach ed with a lot of care.Even though some of the subjects were sensitive, Jamie handled them carefully and without making the book depressing There was enough humor and love to make it a pleasure to read.
