About this listen

To save her family home, impulsive bookstore owner Alexa Maria McKenzie casts a love spell. But she never planned on conjuring up her best friend's older brother - the powerful man who once shattered her heart.

Billionaire Nicholas Ryan doesn't believe in marriage, but in order to inherit his father's corporation, he needs a wife and needs one fast. When he discovers his sister's childhood friend is in dire financial straits, he offers Alexa a bold proposition: a marriage in name only with certain rules. Avoid entanglement. Keep things all business. Do not fall in love. The arrangement is only for a year, so the rules shouldn't be that hard to follow, right? Except fate has a way of upsetting the best-laid plans.

Sweet, Light and Funny

This was a sweet romance with well developed characters, and a flowing story line. There were a lot of different emotions going through the book that was so clear and understandable that it complemented the whole story line. I loved this book. The narrator was also good. She defined the characters perfectly. I would read more from this author. It is worth a listen to.

Wonderful and Predictable

It was a great story that was beautifully written, but there are no unexpected twists and turns. I wasn't on the edge of my seat, more like gliding through knowing what's going to happen. Despite its predictability, Jennifer Probst wrote an amazing story that had me entertained throughout the duration of the audiobook.

Coleen Marlo was an excellent choice of narrator and had a very smooth voice that made the story much more enjoyable.

Predictable, but still enjoyable

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The story line is really cute with the childhood hatred of each other. I actually did have a friend read it and she too knew what was going to happen at the end within the first few chapters, but we still liked it as a fluff novel.

Any additional comments?

The one part where the performer starts screeching trying to convey emotion was just awful. I get there was supposed to be a lot of emotion, but when it's right in your ear it's just annoying.

Hard pass on the narrator

It took me 3 tries to get through this book. The narrator’s voice sounds like it was computer generated; every time she said Alexa all I could think was she sounded just like the Amazon Alexa voice or Siri. It was just terrible to listen to her. Would have been so much better with a different narrator, so the book was just ok for me.

Good book!

This is the first book I read for this author. The story is not new, typical repeated story. Yet, I enjoyed the book. Light, sweet and entertaining. I was not WOWed, but is a good book to pass time.

Didn't like the narrator

I found the narrator for this one overly breathy and dramatic and she has a strange emphasis on some of her words. It was distracting. The story was just okay - I failed to fully engage with the characters. I may have liked the book more if I was reading it myself.
