About this listen

Azria is a mage of Miz, trained to wield the magic her country is famous for. When her estranged mother, alleged pirate Captain Apzana of the Hen & Chick, shows up on her 16th birthday offering her adventure, Azria leaves the life she knows for the promise of riches, renown and danger at her mother's side. But more mysteries than answers surface when Apzana reveals why she's called on Azria after years of absence: the treasure of the Marauders' Island, an island sunk into the Sapphire Sea generations ago by the infamous mage Iyzani. If Azria can raise the island, the score of a thousand shores will be theirs for the taking and she'll secure her place among her mother's crew. But when Iyzani emerges from the shadows to stop them, Azria must summon her power and navigate the waters of revenge and ambition.

This book screams " Listen to Me NOW!"

If you could sum up The Marauders' Island in three words, what would they be?

A Staycation Beach Read

What does Linnea Mohn bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Linnea was wonderful as the narratorfor this book. She didn't just read the book. She became the characters!

Any additional comments?

Overall, I enjoyed the book.
The relationship between the MC and her mom seemed pretty thin, though. Absent from her life for five years, she's quick to run off with her and doesn't seem to be 'homesick' for the grandmother and life she left behind. At all.
Five years would cause a rift or disconnect, which we see at one point. But the young heroine is too quick to back talk/stand up to her mom. Probably unrealistic, even in a fantasy world.
The other flaw was this newly graduated mage flawlessly spells the island to rise ... Was this the first time we see her use her powers? Hmmm
I would still offer a 4.5 stars because I loved the idea of this book. The plot was wonderful and the characters were incredibly 21st century personality types and lively.
Perhaps another edition with more world building and depth given to the MC would tie it together better.
The narrator was spellbinding and brought this book to life. It felt like a vacation beach read with the scenery and pacing.
I loved the book. I just didn't fall in love with it. I would recommend it and I would listen to more from this author. Actually, I came across this book on Audible because I was searching for some of the other books I have on my TBR from this author!
