Publisher's summary

Dien Bien Phu. Saigon. Hanoi. In 1954, they were only exotic names from a French campaign halfway around the world. But now American fighting men - proven on the bloody beaches of Normandy and in the minefields of Korea - are summoned to help beat back the guerilla forces of Ho Chi Minh. To some, the “secret” war in Indochina was the depth of folly. To others, like the majors, it pointed to the heights of glory.

Absolutely excellent!

Just as before but maybe even more so, I cannot wait to listen to the next book in this wonderful series! I truly appreciate that the author brings in interesting female characters as well, but these stories have an overall depth of character that can be appreciated by anyone.

Service

A splendid telling of military men and the environment of the story of the earliest days of Army Aviation. An excellent representation of the good and bad of the men who bring forth major changes in the military services.

A Celebration of Warriors

If you ever served, or respected someone who did, WEB Griffin's books will touch your soul. Fact-based story lines punctuated with incidents that remind you (or teach you) about military values, and how the "brotherhood of arms" lives those values, will keep the pages turning. Before long, you'll want to read all six of this prolific author's series.

Awesome book of this series

I followed this series since mid 1980’s when I was a young 2LT US Army. Kind of ate this series up.

Lowell is saved again

True to form, Griffin, entertains. His descriptions are incredibly realistic. If I close my eyes, I could see big bad bird 2 at the parade ground and the ensuing mayhem

Reader does not understand military acronyms.

I love W.E.B. Griffin books; I've been reading them for decades. The Audible version, however, is sporadically irritating because the reader does not understand how to pronounce military acronyms. As an example, he pronounces DCS/OPS (Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations) as Dee Cee Ess Oh Pee Ess throughout the book. It should be pronounced Dee Cee Ess Ahps. He does the same thing with DCS/PERS (Personnel), and so on. He also pronounces some numbers incorrectly. Example- something like 8043rd MASH being pronounced "Eight Thousand Forty Third, instead of eight-oh forty third or eighty forty third. He pronounces 2000 (8:00 at night) as Two Thousand instead of 20 Hundred. You need either a reader or an editor who understands military pronounciation
