Story
A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. That is, until he meets Dan (Nicholas Braun).

Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

Story
Alice's journey begins as all good journeys do: hitting on the sales guy at REI. After a tumultuous breakup, a quick career transition, family upheaval, and a sobriety journey that didn't fix her life quite as much as she expected it to, Alice decides that the only way to solve all her problems is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. But as she begins preparing for the months-long quest, she realizes the answers she's seeking might not be on top of a snow-covered mountain. Especially since she just learned there was snow in California.

Nice idea, but lacking
I love the idea but the story is quite inconsistent and not terribly well written. The author had a great concept, but didn’t work out the characters and the story very well and it feels a bit childish. The ending makes no sense with the rest of the narrative, especially since it’s from a first person perspective. There’s no ‘hiding the gun’. The characters make little sense and are very two dimensional. Plus the author went for a very cliche view of neurodiversity. It made the character very simple.

Totally divine
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to The maid. The narration was spot on. The story itself was really good too, seemingly light but touching on a number of issues in the world which are dark and ugly. It was great

Started out fine…
The beginning was enticing and since the voice actor does a wonderful job, I was hooked in a few minutes. However, by the second half of the story you realise nothing is really going on and it becomes a bland plot. The ending makes zero sense in my opinion, as it doesn’t fit the protagonist’s character.

Allow the storyline time to develop
Before I realised the reason for the lead’s strange nature, the storyline was frustratingly predictable. The last 3 hours of the book redeemed itself and had some delightful moments

Reviews are spot-on!!
I put off listening to this book, it didn't really sound that , cover wasn't even all that flash but with so many positive reviews I caved and so glad I did.
It's not much of a thriller or even that suspensiveful however, right from the beginning the characters are engaging and likeable. The story, although simple hooks you in and I found it hard to turn off even at 1am.
highly recommend
