About this listen
Save the cure. Kill the crew.
That was the dying order of the captain of the starship Elixr. The ship followed the order. Then it lost its mind. Two decades later, the last chance to save billions of souls rests with the dead starship's only occupants: a pair of boys raised by a deranged robot. When Elixr crashes on a barren world, they join forces with an impoverished girl living on the edge of society to search for answers. Who are they? Why have they survived? And what could Elixr possibly do to save a world on the precipice of collapse? The more they learn, the greater the stakes become. Soon they are running for their lives from secret societies, deadly creatures, and powerful warlords. As enemies multiply, it seems the secrets of the lost starship may never be discovered. But Elixr is hiding more than secrets. Much more. THE LOST STARSHIP box set includes:- Elixr

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Story
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

We hide in shadows. Our planet is lost. We are the last humans, and we must go home. Two thousand years ago, aliens destroyed Earth. Our fleets shattered. Billions died. Story
Avalon was the flagship of the Castle Federation in the last war, now 20 years past. The first of the deep space carriers, no other warship in the fleet holds as many honors or has recorded as many kills. No other warship in the fleet is as old. Accepting the inevitable, the Federation Space Navy has decided to refit her and send her on a tour of the frontier, showing the flag to their allies and enemies as a reminder of her glory - and then decommission her for good.

Why V voice?
Fair story with too many modern colloquialisms.
Listened to end but really have do some mental gymnastics to reinterpret words.

Virtual Voice Narration wasn't awful.
The story line is ok. The characters are good. and surprisingly the Virtual Voice Narration wasn't horrible. I almost didn't listen because of V Voice but unlike past experiences with text to speech this one sounded almost natural. That said there were a few inflection and word choices that were wrong but all in all it was ok. I am currently listening to another book by the same author with a human narrator and definitely enjoy it more.

Fun story and characters.
Really good from the beginning, and carried to the finish. Not a fan of the A.I. voice, but it was tolerable. A.I. just can't follow the the proper ebb and flow of language, or which pronunciation of words to use in a case of double meanings, and it takes a lot away from the story. otherwise wonderful fun story

boring
if this is the future of narration, I won't buy any more books.
super boring, which made it impossible to absorb or get into this story.

Computer generated voices just don’t work in this case
There is something off about a computer generated voice that just makes my stomach turn and gives me a headache I’ve tried now for the third time because a story line looks good. The cadence, or syntax, tone or emotional inflections are just off or wrong enough it ruins the story for me, those things I hear and feel and they are just all wrong and have ruined this nice story for me

Virtual voice is crap
While the story is quite good, the presentation (narration) is horrible. It really ruined the whole experience. The director or producer should be reprimanded for allowing this to go on the market in this shape.
