About this listen

Never underestimate the power of a little black dress, especially one as lucky as mine.

Every time I’ve worn my favorite black dress, something good has happened. I’ve talked my way out of speeding tickets—and into a date with the cute cop—and I’ve found money on the ground, won cool prizes on the Las Vegas strip, and even got a cushy job with an even cushier paycheck. It’s my lucky dress, and in it, I can’t lose...until I did.

Thanks to an enthusiastic bidder at an art auction, the dress failed me when I needed it most. I disappointed my boss and got fired, even though it wasn’t my fault; it was his: the man who writes thirty-five million dollar checks for ugly, ridiculous paintings. I wound up unemployed, broke, and incredibly close to losing the life I’d built for myself.

Now, I've scored a new job as an assistant to a billionaire casino owner, and I’m over-the-moon happy. Hoping there’s still some luck left in my little black dress, I put it on for my first day of work to meet my new boss—Jared Hart, owner and operator of The Black Hart Casino—the insufferable, grumpy, gorgeous jerk who got me fired in the first place.

I want to tell him to take his job and shove it, but I need the money. Plus, being his assistant might give me an opportunity to exact a little payback. Game on, sir.

Oh, and I’m setting that dress on fire the first chance I get. Its luck has obviously run out.

The Little Black Dress is a steamy romantic comedy with enemies who turn into lovers, lots of laughs, and stellar friendships. You might want to keep a fan nearby while you're listening.

The Little Black Dress

This is my first book🎧by Piper James and it didn’t disappoint if you’re looking for a sweet office romance. I was hoping for a little more spice & smexy times but it was a welcome change from all the dark mafia I’ve been listening🎧📖to lately, a pallet cleanser of sorts lol. The narration was🔥but I love everything that Troy Duran reads🫦and Vanessa was good. Is it worth the credit? Yes, if you’re looking for a sweet office love story❣️

You betcha!

Fun, flirty, sexy and enjoyable. I have a few books by this author, but its been a while. And happy to say, so many lol moments when these two first met. I was driving when I first started and there was lots of smiling. I loved Sophie and her quirkiness and her funny superstitions. Jared didn't believe in luck so these two together were hilarious. Was definitely worth a credit and looking forward to the next book in the series. And the narration was pretty darn good too. Loved Troy as usual and I will definitely listen to Vanessa Moyen again. Honestly, there are a ton of narrators I haven't had an opportunity to listen to but not disappointed here!! ☺👍🏻

Beautiful love story!

Absolutely loved the story and the banter. Love enemies to lovers tropes. Loved the narrators.

Tiresome and Silly

I dnf’d at chapter 25. I had already been on the fence because the whole I hate you but I’m hot for you insta-lust in the workplace thing grew tiresome. It becomes the whole premise of the story without much other substance besides the two MC’s bickering and fighting their feelings for one another. Ugh!

First, I’d like to say how completely immature and silly Sophie was. Her whole hate against Jared was spurred on because he outbid her at an auction? Isn’t that the point? The highest bidder wins? The fact that she got so emotional and confronted him was so classless, regardless of her reasoning. Second of all, no way would Jared had hired some chick who was obviously completely off her rocker, immature, and unprofessional. But wait, she was pretty and oh, he wanted to teach her a lesson. Get outta here with that nonsense. Any man running that large a business would have kicked her out the door.

And lastly, I called it quits when Sophie’s obviously sixteen-year-old friends encouraged her to be completely unprofessional and sexually harass her boss through a text message. Seriously? Who does that?! And she was so drunk from ONE tequila shot that she actually did it! And then he comes running because he’s worried about a grown-as$ woman being drunk at a bar. When what he should have been doing was firing her immature, unprofessional as$ when she showed up to work the next day!

This was too silly and a NO for me. The only positive was Troy Durand’s voice! The female narrator probably made me hate Sophie even more though, because her voice was cartoonish and sounded like maybe she’d huffed a helium balloon.
