“Noelle Salazar has an unerring instinct for writing tough women with big hearts . . . The Lies We Leave Behind is a globe-spanning wartime journey filled with pathos and heart!” —Kate Quinn, New York Times bestselling author of The Rose Code

For fans of Kate Quinn and Beatriz Williams, this sweeping story follows a fearless nurse who must leave love behind when duty calls her back to the front.

Somewhere in the Pacific, 1943. Kate Campbell is a nurse who bravely flies back and forth from the front to rescue wounded soldiers, amid long days, harsh conditions and often dangerous weather. Driven by a deep personal need to help in the war effort, she is conflicted when an injury results in her reassignment to the relative comfort of the English countryside.

Love has never been part of her plan, but despite herself, she falls for an officer with three bullet wounds, startling blue eyes and a wicked sense of humor. For the first time, Kate sees a future far from the horrors of war and hate. But before she can pursue it, a secret from her past calls her to duty, and she'll have to travel back into danger one more time to rescue a part of herself she'd left behind. But will she make it back? And will that future still be waiting for her if she does?

A great work of fiction based on historical WW2. I liked how it went from describing the war zone and then a camp as well.

A great read

I didn't like the male voice of Williams daughter and granddaughter. Why didn't you get a female voice for them?

The story of Kate, the flight nurse.

This book was thoughtfully written, but it did not have a satisfying ending. The narrators’ voices or tones were also a little grating.

Well written but sad

Great storyline and I loved the narrators! Xe Sands makes every book wonderful! I’d rather listen to her than read the book.

Great story line and awesome narration!

This novel pulled me in from the start. It is so much more than a love story. Each character was well developed and relatable. I had not read a story of World War II from this approach before
The main character, Kate, is strong, kind, loyal and resilient. I was brought to tears a number of times. Xe Sands’ reading was extraordinary. This novel will stay with me for a long time.

So poignant

I loved the story although it was heartbreaking. So much of the story is rooted in history and accuracy, from the events to the soldiers to the nurses and all the emotions therein. The book gives excellent insight into what various populations may have been experiencing during this time in history. Well told, well narrated and much enjoyed.

Well told, historically possible characters

I loved this book, just as I loved all others by this author. It was engaging and unpredictable yet believable.

I had wanted Kate and Wlliam to find their way back to each other at the end.

The harshness and cruelties of war, and yet sweet love found its way through.

Such a griping story of life during WWII. I listened eagerly to finally hear the end. Every part of the story was surreal and nail biting. While at the same time so romantic
