Fun LitRPG Trilogy

A trilogy by Harmon Cooper set in his ever-expanding Proxima galaxy is a fun escape that is quickly paced and excellently narrated. This is a revenge story that turns into a quest to save the very world our protagonists inhabit. Harmon Cooped sets up specific rule sets and unique aspects to the different games or worlds within his Proxima galaxy. In Unigaea death is permanent and after being brutally murdered by a guild of roving murderers, he crafts his next characters life with the sole pursuit of getting revenge.

From this jump off point we get introduced to Unigaea and all the crazy people Oric Rune meets, works with and kills. The first book introduces us to most of the main characters and starts the world building and the bones for the grand quest beyond just revenge. The second book has Oric battling an internal struggle to decide if revenge is what is important or trying to save the Unigaea world. The third book takes us through to the end of the story and the repercussions for things Oric has or hasn't chosen to do in the previous books.

The narration by Jeff Hays and Annie Ellicott is absolutely amazing. I have always been a huge fan of Jeff Hays' work, and now that he has expanded his Soundbooth Theatre to using other voice actors it has really helped push the narration even further. All of the characters have distinct voices, and Jeff and Annie play very well off each other and make you completely absorbed in their telling of the story.

A fun and fairly short series that has a conclusion and leaves the door open to possibly pick up a new series or see some of these characters in the other series. If you like Harmon Cooper of enjoy LitRPGs check this out.

Great collection of books

Loved the way the story had been done and the cut off in book 3 felt well timed to me. Jeff did a great job giving a voice and personality to each of the characters as well.

Absolutely awesome.

Let me start by saying that for those unfamiliar with Harmon Cooper you are in for a massive treat. He's an incredible writer and has crafted many series, most of which are at least partially connected in some way, much like almost all of Stephen King's books partially connected.

Now on to The Last Warrior of Unigaea. This is an awesome 3 book LitRPG series, which makes this boxset one heck of a bargain. As mentioned this is a LitRPG series and it takes place on the world of Unigaea within the Proxima universe, which is the virtual universe that many of Harmon's series take place in. At the start of the first book we meet Oric Rune and his companion, a giant wolf named....well Wolf, lol. Oric is a player killer, a despised class of character within the world of Unigaea, but he's chosen that class for a reason. It's the only way he can carry out his personal mission of revenge, a mission you'll come to appreciate as you learn more about Oric. But as the series goes on his mission grows well beyond simple revenge, morphing into a mission to save the world...or at least to save as much of it as he can, and you'll see he is not a simple player killer, Oric is a true hero. Throughout the journey he's joined by an awesome and diverse collection of characters. Not only does the series tell a great story with tons of fast paced action and great RPG elements, but it has true heart as well. You will come to love and care about these characters. I love Sam Raid!

Now as for the narration, Jeff Hays is one of the most incredible narrators I've ever listened to. He's one of my all time favorite narrators and I've listened to dozens of books performed by him. Not only does he always give each character their own unique voice but he gives each of them their own speech patterns. Listening to one of his books you'd think you were listening to dozens of different people, not one person doing dozens of different voices. Now in this series Jeff is joined by the incredibly talented Annie Ellicott and she does a spectacular job. If you see either of these two or Soundbooth Theater in general attached to any book then you are pretty much guaranteed to be in for an incredible listening experience.

As I started at the start of this review, The Last Warrior of Unigaea is an incredible series and getting the entire boxset for only 1 credit is an unbelievable deal. And once you finish this series you'll be looking for more. The great news is that Harmon has plenty more readily available.
