About this listen
A novel that grips from the very beginning and that will live long in the memory, The Last Thing I Remember is Deborah Bee's startling debut thriller.
Sarah is in a coma. Her memory is gone - she doesn't know how she got there. And she doesn't know how she might get out. But then she discovers that her injury wasn't an accident. And that the assailant hasn't been caught.
Unable to speak, see or move, Sarah must use every clue that she overhears to piece together her own past. And work out who it is that keeps coming into her room.

Story
A young woman turns up at a police station. She has been kept prisoner in her own home. Abused and tortured, her every move watched, her every thought controlled. Now she's finally escaped. That's what she says. But when the police arrive at the address she's given them, her story doesn't seem to add up. Her husband is missing, but his phone and wallet are still in the house. She says she's the victim, but what if she's not? What if the stories she's telling aren't her stories at all....

Story
My darling son, Sam, is marrying his childhood sweetheart, and I couldn’t be prouder of the man he’s grown into. Walking out on his abusive father all those years ago was the best thing I ever did. And today he stands, tall and handsome, saying "I do" to my dream daughter-in-law. If I hadn’t pushed them together all those years ago, he might never have found a girl as perfect as Lauren. It’s true what they say, mother always knows best.

The Girlfriend. As soon as I opened the paper that day and saw that picture of Sandy, I didn’t care about the story surrounding it. There’s no way he hurt that girl. Now he’s out, we’ll get married and I’ll finally get to meet his daughter. The Other Woman. No one knows what happened all those years ago, and the life I built depends on no one finding out.

Story
Early one morning on the shore of the Thames, DCI Samuel Owusu is called to the scene of a gruesome discovery. When Owusu sends the evidence for examination, he learns the bones are connected to a cold case that left three people dead on the kitchen floor in a Chelsea mansion thirty years ago. Rachel Rimmer has also received a shock—her husband, Michael, has been found dead in the cellar of his house in France. All signs point to an intruder, and the French police need her to come urgently to answer questions about Michael and his past that she very much doesn’t want to answer.

Story
The day my path crossed with Simon Fox I thought I’d already lost everything, but then he almost ran me off the road with his flash car and belittling jibes. The men in my life had undermined me for too long. Enough was enough. Fuelled by alcohol and the desire to get even, I decided a spot of petty vandalism would make me feel a whole lot better. Wrong. Very wrong. I hadn’t realised that Simon Fox was not a man to be messed with.

Twenty years ago, 16-year-old Tara Martin disappeared from a small town in the heart of England. Now, her sudden return and the mind-bending tale of where she’s been will challenge our very perception of the truth. For 20 years after Tara Martin disappeared, her parents and her brother, Peter, lived in denial of the grim fact that she was gone for good. Then suddenly on Christmas Day, the doorbell rings at her parents’ home, and there, dishevelled and slightly peculiar looking, Tara stands. It’s a miracle, but alarm bells are ringing for Peter. Tara’s story just does not add up.

Story
The death of legendary jazz trumpeter Joss Moody exposes an extraordinary secret. Unbeknown to all but his wife Millie, Joss was a woman living as a man. The discovery is most devastating for their adopted son, Colman, whose bewildered fury brings the press to the doorstep and sends his grieving mother to the sanctuary of a remote Scottish village. Winner of the Guardian Fiction Prize, Trumpet by Jackie Kay is a starkly beautiful modern classic about the lengths to which people will go for love.

As Adrian looks back on their brief but seemingly happy marriage, disturbing secrets begin to surface. The divorces from his two previous wives had been amicable, or so it seemed; his children, all five of them, were resilient as ever, or so he thought.

Story
Detective Constable Janet Scott is subtle and reliable, a diplomatic thinker with a wry sense of humor. She's put in the time and seen it all, but has no desire for the boss's job—she loves her own too much. Rachel Bailey couldn't be more different—she's energetic, impulsive, and ambitious, and has just been transferred to the Manchester murder squad. Their commander thinks Rachel's intuition could make her a great cop, but has reservations about her shoot-first-think-later approach, so she partners her with Janet.

Excellent BUT
I almost returned this book because of the usage of the f-word SO OFTEN! but I can understand the use, coming from a messed up 14 yr old.
Something made me read on. Aside from that word being in abundance in my mind now, the story was excellent. Only 4 stars due to the word usage.

Grow up...
I'm really tired of ppl giving authors bad reviews because they can't stand some 4 letter words. Mostly women. Ladies, please be grown ups. If you can read about murder you can handle some curse words. Reading a book with cursing never hurt anyone. So.... it just sounds petty and prudish. I loved the book thought it was extremely well written and realistic.
I wasn't bored not minute. I would recommend it to any mature adult.

Bad language
The language was ridiculous but it didn’t bother me that much, that kid was freaking hilarious! The story was pretty good. And I have to say the author gets major points for telling an original story!! A breath of fresh air! Different story with realistic characters, I loved it. I cuss sometimes myself, so bad language doesn’t bother me but I think it could have been toned down a lot. Still a good story though! Go Debbie 🐝

Found this book very clever and engaging. Story unfolds from two different voices and viewpoints which keeps you guessing throughout. I felt the ending was slightly abrupt but still loved. Narrators excellent🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was different
I don't believe I've read a book told from the perspective of a comatose character. It's amazing the things people say when they don't think you can get them. Sarah hears everything but will it be enough to was her life? Once you get used to the back and forth been Kelly and Sarah, everything starts to come together. I will say, I wish more was added to the ending but I guess I can pretty much figure out how everything went from where it end. Anyway, great book. Enjoy!
