Best Spoken Word Grammy Award nominee!

From stand-up comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish comes The Last Black Unicorn, a hilarious, edgy, and heart-wrenching collection of autobiographical essays that will leave you laughing through tears.

Tiffany Haddish grew up in one of the poorest parts of South Central Los Angeles. Her mother wound up with a debilitating brain injury after surviving a car accident. Tiffany never fit in anywhere: not in the households she rotated through in the foster care system and certainly not at the nearly all white high school she had to ride the bus an hour to attend. As an illiterate ninth grader, Tiffany did everything she could to survive. After a multitude of jobs, she finally realized that she had talent in an area she never would have suspected: comedy. Tiffany faced the 'routine' hindrances of climbing the entertainment business ladder - but had the added obstacles of sex, race, and class in her way. But she got there. She's humble, grateful, down to earth, and funny as hell. She still cleans the toilet the way she was shown by a foster mom who worked as a maid, and she still rolls her joints the way one of her foster dads taught her.

Tiffany can't avoid being funny: It's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

Featured Article: The Best Memoirs to Make You Laugh, Cry, and Think

The memoir, as an art form, is one of the most difficult and complex to pull off. That’s why these titles are so impressive: not only are they excellent works in their own right, but they’ve achieved cultural acclaim, resonating with listeners of different ages, genders, races, religions, and identities. Often narrated by the authors themselves, these audiobooks allow listeners to be immersed in each story and feel all of the raw and unfiltered emotion that comes with them.

A must read!

This book will make you see that anything is possible no matter where you started in life while it makes you crack up the entire time. It’s The FASTEST AUDIBLE I have ever listened to. I kept making excuses to get on the car and drive so I could listen to more!!!!

Raw

Most memorable and favorite character was Roscoe. Tiffany has definitely done what others would never do or admit to doing. I love that she's 100% transparent and unapologetic about it. I wish more people were like her...living their truth whether good or bad.

Exceptional and surprising story!

I only knew a little of Tiffany when I chose this book and was pleasantly surprised to hear her voice narrating her own story about the good and not so good times of her life. She has a lot to share and a very positive outlook on life and I was grateful to hear her side of things. Thank you for sharing, Tiffany!!!

Great laughs!

The last chapter (15) was unnecessary, but great storyline overall. There are some dramatic moments that actually made me cry...I do believe that our most funniest comics have dealt with the greatest tragedies in their lives and to overcome them, they find the humor in life. I believe this is Tiffany's greatest catalyst as a comedian and this book outlines her peserverance to overcome tragedy to triumph in her career. Having Haddish read her book is a nice touch to authenicity to the book and really delivers on the storytelling as well as comedic timing that we know Haddiah for. I dont think I would have gotten the same impact of the story without Audible.

So relatable

So many things to say about this book, I don’t even know where to begin. She’s an inspiration to all girls who have been abused, pushed down, and have given up on life. My BFF recommended this book. I’m glad she did.

Funny and real

Tiffany brings it with this book. funny, sad at times, slightly disturbing, back to funny. There were some parts of the book that any fans of hers have heard before because her life is the material for most of her jokes, like the Will Smith swamp tour or the Roscoe story, but it was good to have it all in context rather than as a punchline where you can't tell if the joke was real or just a story for laughs. No, that was real. All those crazy things actually happened to her and she is still successful and making money off of all that. You should buy this book
