About this listen
Deep in the shadowy foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains lies a dying town....
My name is Amelia Gray. They call me The Graveyard Queen. I've been commissioned to restore an old cemetery in Asher Falls, South Carolina, but I'm coming to think I have another purpose here.
Why is there a cemetery at the bottom of Bell Lake? Why am I drawn time and again to a hidden grave I've discovered in the woods? Something is eating away at the soul of this town - this withering kingdom - and it will only be restored if I can uncover the truth.

Story
My name is Amelia Gray. I'm a cemetery restorer who sees ghosts. In order to protect myself from the parasitic nature of the dead, I've always held fast to these rules passed down from my father…until now. Detective John Devlin needs my help to find a killer, but he is haunted by ghosts who shadow his every move. To warn him would be to invite them into my life. I've vowed to keep my distance, but the pull of his magnetism grows ever stronger even as the headstone symbols lead me closer to truth and to the gossamer veil that separates this world from the next.

"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

A perfect halloween ghost story!
This is #2 of the series and I loved it. Spooky and ghostly, perfect for Halloween! Amelia can see ghosts and she restores cemeteries and now we know why. This is the story of her birth plus a little evil in the mix. Beautiful southern narration, Amelia lives in Charleston.

Each book is the better than the last.
Like the first book, it had a slow start but it had just enough intrigue to keep me listen. By the end of the book I couldn't wait to get the next. One of the few ghost series out there that actually has a different take rather than the obvious and predicable plots.

Creepy in a good way.
Really good second book in the Graveyard Queen series. I really like how the story unfolds for Amelia, how she discovers the towns secrets and how they effect her. At times it's a little predictable but getting there is a treat. Amelia and Thane are interesting and likeable and finding out how they've been manipulated is a very good read.
Khristine Hvam does a great narration but then I knew that from the Jane Yellowrock books she also narrates. I don't know a thing about a southern accent but I like to think that it's as Khristine represents it. In these books the accent makes the story all the creepier. I certainly hope they stick with her for the narration of the third book, The Prophet. Hopefully it will show up on audible soon.

Good story continues from "The Restorer"
Should read "The Restorer" first, then this book, then "The Prophet". If you like the first book, you'll like all three. All of them are a little spooky, as you would expect, if the main character can see the spirits of the lingering dead. I enjoyed them all, and hope the series continues.

Interesting installment
While this was an interesting installment the the Graveyard Queen series and a decent story it was not as compelling as the first. At some places the author used overly descriptive, overly vague, redundant writing to draw out the action. I think a lot of it could have been reduced in a favor of fleshing our plot points. With regard to the plot the author does a lot of telling vs showing. Too much expositional conversation that summarizes up story arcs makes me feel less invested. The book ends rather abruptly and with some anti climatic payoffs. On the positive side, the narrator was magnificent, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to care about any romantic interest in favor of Devlin but I found Thane to be a compelling character, however I had to go back to the start and double check that Thane was not a cousin at one point. Like the last book the romance was just a background element not the main storyline, which i don’t mind. That said, all of the ominous shivering and slogging through the rainy mountains could have benefitted from a few steamy scenes.

Underwater Graveyard, A Bait Dog, & Killer Weeds
I don't know if I'm more creeped out, stressed out, or just plain out of my mind over the twists and turns in this one. But it sure kept me going until the end. I love the unique story line and characters found in this series. The main character Amelia is an enjoyable blend of strength and self-deprecation. She wavers between her powerful knowledge and a lack of confidence in a way that many people can relate to. She faces her fears, stands up to those who make her angry, but she shows a human side as well.
In this story, the second installment in the Graveyard Queen series, we find out more about Amelia's background. Holy Cow. Didn't see this stuff coming. No wonder the poor woman sees ghosts. Amelia also finds herself attracted to a rich and charming man she meets on the ferry to her new work site. Thane is a multi-faceted character who presents the side he wants people to see. A trait he's learned in the society in which he was raised. Unfortunately, this only creates more mystery for Amelia in the creepy town of Asher Falls, where you really can't trust anyone.
There's a lot going on in this novel: mystery, intrigue, passion, disloyalty, and generations' worth of lies. The emotional highs and lows are pretty intense. Although this story could be read as a stand-alone, do yourself a favor and read the original story in the series first for better enjoyment.
