About this listen
Lydia Dawson is living on the Illinois frontier when she hears an unusual doctrine preached by a traveling minister from Ohio. The message of the gospel suggests answers to questions Lydia privately harbors. Lydia’s heart is stirred, but she is forbidden by her family to have anything to do with this new-found religion called Mormonism.
In Independence, Missouri, Christian Kade is facing personal difficulties and mounting persecution because of his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ. His work on a Church-owned newspaper puts Christian in the center of a spiraling series of events which ultimately forces Christian, as well as the other Saints in Independence, into a dangerous confrontation with their enemies in Missouri.
How these two courageous people surmount their trials and come to share a triumphant love is the compelling story of In Quest of Zion, volume one of this riveting series of historical novels, The Kade Family Saga. Told with the artistry of a masterful storyteller against a historically accurate backdrop, the author skillfully blends historical and fictional characters into an exciting, fast-paced story. Lydia and Christian typify the faith and courage of the early Latter-Day Saints. Their saga promises adventure, romance, and a spiritual journey you will never forget.

Interesting story
The narrator’s soporific voice did not convey the emotional depth of this novel. Overall an epilogue would have been a plus.

Awesome first book.
I really enjoyed this book. I hope rest of the series as good. I had no idea the extreme struggles they endured! Very sad. I guess close minded people have always been present. This proves that!

Loved it!
This is the second book I've read by Laurel Mouritsen and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I appreciated that the story started well into the establishment of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and that its characters are centered in Missouri rather than most historical fiction that I've read that either tells everything from a Kirkland- centered focus, or splits the focus between both.
The characters are well-developed, distinct and relatable. Nancy Peterson's performance is pleasant to listen to and filled with impressively notable dialects for characters from various parts of the nation at that time.
I especially appreciated that I could listen from my phone when in the car, and then transition to my Echo dot whenever I was home, to save my phone's battery, and it never missed a beat in transition.

So realistic
This is labeled Christian Fiction but this is SOOOOO realistic that you swear its non fiction. The storyline is captivating, riveting with realistic characters. This is just the beginning of the adventure.

good LDS pioneer fiction
This was a good story about early members of the LDS church and their trials and persecutions. The narrator's voice was a little too monotone and breathy for my taste. But I plan to continue with book 2.

Narration
Loved the story and characters. I am not Mormon, but that didn't take away from the story.
The narrator's voice was low and she whispers at time. That combined with the inflection in her voice made me think her voice is more suitable for those steamy type romance novels
