Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • Investigator Lacy Stoltz follows the trail of a serial killer, and closes in on a shocking suspect—a sitting judge—in “one of the best crime reads of the year.... Bristling with high-tech detail and shivering with suspense.... Worth staying up all night to finish” (Wall Street Journal).

In The Whistler, Lacy Stoltz investigated a corrupt judge who was taking millions in bribes from a crime syndicate. She put the criminals away, but only after being attacked and nearly killed. Three years later, and approaching forty, she is tired of her work for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct and ready for a change.

Then she meets a mysterious woman who is so frightened she uses a number of aliases. Jeri Crosby’s father was murdered twenty years earlier in a case that remains unsolved and that has grown stone cold. But Jeri has a suspect whom she has become obsessed with and has stalked for two decades. Along the way, she has discovered other victims.

Suspicions are easy enough, but proof seems impossible. The man is brilliant, patient, and always one step ahead of law enforcement. He is the most cunning of all serial killers. He knows forensics, police procedure, and most important: he knows the law.

He is a judge, in Florida—under Lacy’s jurisdiction.

He has a list, with the names of his victims and targets, all unsuspecting people unlucky enough to have crossed his path and wronged him in some way. How can Lacy pursue him, without becoming the next name on his list?

The Judge’s List is by any measure John Grisham’s most surprising, chilling novel yet.

Wrong Choice for Narration

I love Mary Louise Parker and her voice is tiring to listen to in this story.

Plausible Ending?

I don’t think so. The author does a good job with all the complexities and the different characters until he tries to wrap it up. I don’t think a narcissistic sociopath would do what this guy does in the end.

The narrator was excellent!!

I really enjoyed this story, I love John Grisham books an this was another good one. Sometimes it was hard to tell who was talking, but for the most part it was very good.

A good grishom read but not the best yet.

I have read many comments on the narration and while it didn't ruin anything for me I don't believe it was as good as other professional readers.. The story was very interesting interesting and the ending was Not up to usual Grisham standards but it was a fun read nonetheless.

No suprise

The marketing around the book created anticipation that has not been met. Not a bad book, but pretty simmilar to the rest of the authors collection.

Don’t understand the knocks on the narration

I’m usually picky about narrators and tend to pass on potentially great stories if read by someone I don’t like.

However, Mary Louise Parker’s narration was captivating and held my attention throughout. It doesn’t hurt that the story was great.

If you’re a Grisham or thriller fan, I’d encourage you to give this a try if you’re only the fence for criticism of the narration.

a clear path to a sociopathic killer

A amazing story through the unravelling of a group of cold cases that lead to high judicial official. A surprising end.

Narrator

Sooooo I am just starting and thought it was me. The narration is HORRIBLE! I am a huge Grisham fan so I rarely read reviews. Wish I had on this one. I do not think the actress cares about the work. It shows. This was just a gig to get a check. I am going to muddle through this read. Man! Do better people.
