Publisher's summary

There are stories no one knows. Hidden stories. I love those stories. And since I work in the National Archives, I find those stories for a living. Beecher White, a young archivist, spends his days working with the most important documents of the U.S. government. He has always been the keeper of other people's stories, never a part of the story himself...Until now.

When Clementine Kaye, Beecher's first childhood crush, shows up at the National Archives asking for his help tracking down her long-lost father, Beecher tries to impress her by showing her the secret vault where the president of the United States privately reviews classified documents. After they accidentally happen upon a priceless artifact - a 200-year-old dictionary that once belonged to George Washington, hidden underneath a desk chair, Beecher and Clementine find themselves suddenly entangled in a web of deception, conspiracy, and murder.

Soon a man is dead, and Beecher is on the run as he races to learn the truth behind this mysterious national treasure. His search will lead him to discover a coded and ingenious puzzle that conceals a disturbing secret from the founding of our nation. It is a secret, Beecher soon discovers, that some believe is worth killing for.

Gripping, fast-paced, and filled with the fascinating historical detail for which he is famous, The Inner Circle is a thrilling novel that once again proves Brad Meltzer as a brilliant author writing at the height of his craft.

Great historical information

Story holds a lot of great historical facts and most are not well known. The plot is a little far fetched, but it is entertaining once you get into the details. A good thrill ride with loads of fun facts.

So Good!! Suspenseful, Informative, many twists!!

I liked the information and descriptions about so many places I'll never get to visit in Washington D.C. I enjoyed the many descriptions of places I've only seen documentaries about. The characters in the story were believable and I could visualize then by their very good descriptions. The story was well rounded with a bit of a cliff hanger at the end. Twists and suspense made for a very good listen and of course with Scott Brick narrating it makes it a well rounded good book!! Well done Brad Meltzer!

Started with Promise…

Scott Brick and the National Treasure vibe are what drew me to it. It started out promising. The main character was a decent, somewhat likable person, which is a must for me to get invested. It sounded like it would be filled with history, mystery and intrigue. It honestly got so dragged out and annoying with the obsessiveness over the most minute details of Clementine’s expressions, words and actions, I barely muddled through it by the second half. I read reviews before purchasing that this could have been cut in half in length and yup, that is dead on. I have never read this author before, so I am not sure if this was just an off one for him or not, but he has a strange way of telling a story. The ending was agreeable enough.

Too long & intricate plot

Took too long to make sense of the plot. Very long book. Couldn't keep my attention, so I cut it short with 2hrs to go.

Good but too long

I enjoy all types of mysteries and thrillers, and I think this one had a chance of being really great, but it ended up being too long and almost tedious to the point of being boring. But if you have a long drive or plenty of time to invest, you'll probably enjoy it.

Good yarn. - if you like to think about how Washington might really work.

I enjoyed he commentator - he was perfect for this story. It is well written and moves quickly and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I liked all the characters and think that something like this is probably the way things actually work in Washington.
