Acerca de esta escucha

Mars has always been the lesser twin, the shadow to his sister Caroline's radiance. But when Caroline dies under horrific circumstances, Mars is propelled to learn all he can about his once-inseparable sister who'd grown tragically distant.

Mars's genderfluidity means he's often excluded from the traditions—and expectations—of his politically connected family. This includes attendance at the prestigious Aspen Conservancy Summer Academy where his sister poured so much of her time. But with his grief still fresh, he insists on attending in her place.

What Mars finds is a bucolic fairytale not meant for him. Folksy charm and sun-drenched festivities camouflage old-fashioned gender roles and a toxic preparatory rigor. Mars seeks out his sister's old friends: a group of girls dubbed the Honeys, named for the beehives they maintain behind their cabin. They are beautiful and terrifying—and Mars is certain they're connected to Caroline's death.

But the longer he stays at Aspen, the more the sweet mountain breezes give way to hints of decay. Mars’s memories begin to falter, bleached beneath the relentless summer sun. Something is hunting him in broad daylight, toying with his mind. If Mars can't find it soon, it will eat him alive.

I dont usually write book reviews, but this book...wow. I'm a sucker for a good mystery/suspense story as well as some lgbtqia+ rep, and this is a great source of both. I can honestly say I've never read a story like this one. The plot is so different and so well written; I was hooked from the beginning and did not want to stop. I will absolutely be reading this again.

The narration was also great. I don't often like when a narrator does the voices of different genders (sometimes it's outright commical) but this was done very well.

An Instant Favorite

Was not at all that I was expecting. I bought the book to listen to on a 10 Hour drive. it took my mind off the road and the trip. I love the story thought it was really awesome and the narrator did a great job.

What a crazy ride

It was a good book and recommended listening. However, this wasn’t scary or creepy. If your genre is horror/thriller, this is very very tame in that regard.

The narrator was perfect for this book and the sounds effects were great. I wish more audiobooks had sound effects. It makes the experience that much more immersive.

Not a horror book

Story seemed pretty slow to start and just seemed all over the place towards the end. Maybe I just wasn’t expecting paranormal. Performance was great though. If it was subpar I’d probably stop listening halfway through

All over the place

Truly the perfect summer book if you like things like gossip and spooky fiction you’ll love this. There is so much detail the book starts like it ends and it ends like it starts and its something that kept me hungry for more

One of a kind

WOWOWOW! Ryan La Sala is a beautiful storyteller. Though the twists were predictable, the plot was not. The main character was hilarious and spunky. I thoroughly enjoyed this!

Predictable yet unexpected

This has to be the best I've read all year. The plot, the poetic descriptions, the queerness. I really can't hype this enough. I'm obsessed with mystery and I had no idea where this story was going ever. Surprise at every turn. Confusion ( in the best way). I truly didn't know if this was a fantasy / paranormal thing or mental illness thing until it smacked me in the face. Ryan La Sala is an extremely talented writer IMHO and I'll be reading everything they put out.

Blown Away By The Storytelling!

The extra sounds in the audio book (bird chirping, screams, laughter) was distracting. The story and narrator was all well done. I loved it.

Great story, distracting audio

The story was very interesting, suspenseful, gripping and a little scary at some points. So I loved it. Pete Cross was amazing. I could listen to his narration all day.

Pleasantly surprised

Overall, the production crew of this book need to get ALL of their flowers! The story is good but extremely long and the plot doesn’t really get good until the end.

Good to pass the time
