About this listen

The first three novels from the acclaimed Haunted series are collected here in one terrifying volume.

Haunted: Perron Manor: Sisters Sarah and Chloe inherit a house they could never have previously dreamed of owning. However, the girls soon realize this is a place evil calls home.

Haunted: Devil’s Door: Halloween night, 1982. Many people were brutally killed or simply vanished at the Blackwater Hotel—formerly Perron Manor. The events of that night have always remained a mystery. Until now...

Haunted: Purgatory: A paranormal research team is hired to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Perron Manor is haunted. But will the team survive long enough to complete their assignment, or will their souls be forfeit?

OK but not great

I got through this book but it was pretty much a typical ghost story. As in other reviews, the narrator really had a hard time speaking as the female characters. It did have a couple of new ideas that were quite interesting, but I won’t be continuing this saga.

Narrating was horrible

The story wasn't bad but I could not get past the narrator! If the main characters are women please get a woman narrator, his imitation of a woman sounded mocking. The story wasn't bad but ok.

Great story. Bad narrator.

I like the writing. The narrator is terrible at inflection and really bad at female characterization.

meh

not a bad Haunting story... but nothing original... Echoes of Hill House with a side dish of 9Th Gate. it relies on shock factor with imagery that isn't too shocking

Performance ok, story pretty decent

Overall I found the story entertaining and I enjoyed listening to the books. However, I felt that I too had a hard time getting over the narrator’s performance, although I felt that he exaggerated both men and women. I found that when I listened to the track at 115% speed I was able to bypass some of that issue, and the voices sounded more realistic.
I should mention that this repeated feedback - in my opinion - is only partially the narrator’s fault, as I thought that the characters were at times overall dumbed down and were portrayed with a difficult attitude.

All in all I think the three book bundle is worth the one credit, but I don’t think I would’ve been happy with my purchase had I bought them individually.

Better than expected!

This first volume of The Haunted Collection is actually pretty good. It gives the history of Perron Manor along with a few twists thrown in. As you transition from one book to the next, they each get better and better, which easily keeps you reading on to find out what more could possibly take place.

FINALLY, a great gothic ghost story!!!

I’ve been searching for a top notch ghost story for years since most horror fiction has gone the way of deep disturbia. While this certainly has disturbing, demonic aspects, it takes me back to the classic gothic supernatural ghost story. Highly recommend.

Too many ghosts .

The Perron house is a murderous snooze. Why wasn’t it razed to the ground between the 14th century and today?

Couldn't get past the first few chapters

First off, the narrarator should not do female voices. He sounds like he's making fun of the female characters. His narration is not good. It made the story feel like a cheap romance book. I might try to read it myself, but I just cannot continue to listen to the audio book.
