Finding the body in the bath tub in Book 1

A Great Series

I really enjoyed all 3 of these books & can't wait to get into the next set. Harry & his crew are great to watch & the stories all have significant twists & turns...it keeps you tuned in.
I enjoyed watching Harry get himself into all sorts of situations & how he figures out the "bad guy" Great series

Great Series!

I purchased Harry Starke #1 a while ago and loved it. I went to buy #2 and found this set of 1 - 3. I could get #2 & #3 that meant for just one credit. If you have not bought #1 yet, this is an even better deal.

All three books have completely different plots and can be read as stand alone books, but they are even better if read in order. Harry is maturing, becoming more complex and growing up in many ways. In #1 he tends to jump a little too much from bed to bed, and in #3 he is completely settled in with the girl of his dreams for example.

The narrator is the same for all three titles which is fine with me. He does a great job of becoming Harry Starke. Being written in the first person if he didn't make the character as real and completely genuine as he sounds the books would not be near as enjoyable.

I will be buying the next set which is also available with books 4 - 6.

Long live Harry Starke!

Could Not Finish

I really wanted to listen to this series, but the narrator did not appeal to me. I gave 3 stars as I could not give a true rating. I'll read it instead. My advice, listen to the narration before you purchase. Remember this could just be me.....

Entertaining

The series was entertaining and enjoyable. Some twists that I hadn’t expected. I felt like there were 2 narrators trading off in 2nd and 3rd books. That bothered me a little bit. Overall time well spent.

Great detective story! Narrator was soso.

So this is my first book in the series. Story is great. Everything you’d want in a detective novel. However, the narrator was just killing me with his voice portrayal. He gave every character in the conversations a whiny tempo. It’s just not realistic in conversations unless your talking to school children in trouble. It’s not that I didn’t like his reading, it’s just every conversation was as if both characters were whining-complaining at each other. Hope he gets rid of this tempo and talks more realistic in the other books. I really want to listen to the others.

I'm a new Harry Starke fan!

This is one of the best values I have ever gotten on Audible. Harry Starke is an interesting character -- part bad ass -- good guy-- and great detective. The novels all have a classic detective flavor similar to "Mike Hammer" "Spenser" or other classic detectives. The plots are in depth and pretty sophisticated --not the usual run of the mill detective stuff. His supporting staff and investigative partners (like Kate) are well developed and referenced in each novel. Sometimes I just like a good who-done-it novel and this is perfect! Three novels for 1 credit is a great bargain.

Stories got better as characters were fleshed out

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No. I don't know anyone else who listens to audio books. Their loss, I know.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I like a great mystery and these were not complex situations but what I enjoyed were the meetings of the minds which went over and over the aspects of the cases and came to a conclusion. Not tingly but just a very enjoyable listen during our summer monsoon storms here in AZ.

What does Tom Lennon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Lennon's accent is great. I have never visited the deep south but I have read that the accent is a little Brooklynish and he added that to his narration. His Jamaican accent could be improved though.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Relaxing in an intellectual way.

Any additional comments?

Ordered the next set. Can't wait to see where the characters go from here.
