About this listen

Book One in the Infinite Darkness series, The Harbinger is a gritty science fiction novel gallivanting at breakneck speed through the galaxy, exploring new worlds, strange technology, and the danger faced not only from a blood-thirsty enemy, but from those defending against them.

Humanity has joined the ranks of the Commonwealth, an expanding civilization incorporating dozens of sentient species within an interstellar government. That civilization is now threatened by another, one so ruthless nearly all hope of survival has been abandoned. At a hidden research station, a team of scientists studies a piece of the enemy’s technology, hoping against hope to discover any means to fight back. Rhys Kelly, a man recruited by the scientists, may hold the key to humanity’s ultimate survival. Only, perhaps not for the reasons he’s been led to believe…

The ending makes it worth the read.

The MC is a wimp, plain and simple. Throughout this story he gets kicked around, bullied, and mistreated by absolutely everyone he meets. I thought this would be one of those stories where the underdog finds his Mojo and opens a can of butt-kicking on everyone, but the author had other plans.
I was getting tired of the depressing MC, but the evil alien bad guys kept me listening. The author has created an intriguing culture around the aliens and I wanted to know more. I also wanted to find out why strange things kept happening to the MC. Things that he shouldn't know how to do, or that everyone around him said were not possible, As the story progressed, I was imagining how the author was going to explain these strange occurrences,
The ending was completely satisfying and surprising. The author tied everything together and explained all the strange things that the MC experienced and it was a lot more intriguing then the explanation I had envisioned. I really liked the ending of this story.
This is the first in a series, and the prolog gives you a taste of what is to come, but there is no cliffhanger. This story is complete and you are not left in the middle of some dire situation waiting forever for the next book to come out.
I'm looking forward to book 2 because it sounds like one of the intriguing aliens I liked is going to get a prominent role.

Great story! Great narration!

This is an engaging story with excellent character development! The ending was great and unexpected and even though Rhys was frustratingly whiny and missing all his chances to get it figured out, he does finally get there in the end. Accurate and enjoyable technical details about shipboard life and the narrator kills it! He really brought the story to life and filled out each character in a distinct and interesting way. Great work all around! Can’t wait for the next book!!!!!!
