About this listen

C. S. Lewis' dazzling allegory about Heaven and Hell - and the chasm fixed between them - is one of his most brilliantly imaginative tales, where we discover that the gates of Hell are locked from the inside.

In a dream, the narrator boards a bus on a drizzly afternoon in Hell and embarks on an incredible voyage to Heaven. Anyone in Hell is invited on board, and anyone may remain in Heaven if he or she so chooses. But do we really want to live in Heaven? This powerful, exquisitely written fantasy is one of C. S. Lewis's most enduring works of fiction and a profound meditation on good and evil and on what God really offers us.

Mind-blowing

CSLewis makes it clear it's fictional, STILL it makes you rethink your stance on Heaven-n-Hell.

Want a good story that will make you think?

What did you love best about The Great Divorce?

This book will make you wonder. I was constantly trying to figure out: "where are the characters" and "what is the underlying message"? Take a peak at CS Lewis' website for a summary of this book prior to listening, it will help with your overall ease of enjoyment. Or do as I did, listen with wonder the first time, then read the overview and then listen again! A wonderful story, performed well too!

Beautifully Read

My favorite performer. Though this is a musing, not a real theological examination, it's quite lovely and brief.

Loved listening to it

The bok was much easier to understand listening to it than reading it. However, now I think ill go back and reread it to get into it deeper.

Deep, provocative, and just plain wonderful story

C S Lewis was able to tell wonderful stories with memorable characters and scenes that make you think. He tells the story with such artistry and theological richness that you grow with the narrative. Simply womderful! This audio was very well done as well. The narrator was exceptional and the production was second to none. Very well done!

Familiar Yet New

If you've read other works from Lewis, this book will be very familiar to you. It has touches of The Chronicles of Narnia and a hint of That Hideous Strength sprinkled among the pages. It's reminiscent of Dante's Divine Comedy, but with Lewis' signature tone of gentleness. All at once the book feels like an old favorite and a new tale - I've never read it, but the whole time I was listening I felt as though I was returning to something I'd read a dozen times before.
The narrator did a great job distinguishing voices and emoting, very nicely done.
