About this listen

Four years ago, 19-year-old Travis Brown made a choice: to raise his newborn daughter on his own. While most of his friends were out partying and meeting girls, Travis was at home, changing diapers and worrying about keeping food on the table. But he's never regretted his decision. Bella is the light of his life. The reason behind every move he makes. And so far, she is fed. Cared for. Safe.

But when Travis loses his construction job and his home, the security he's worked so hard to create for Bella begins to crumble....

Then a miracle: A job in Raleigh has the power to turn their fortunes around. It has to. But when Travis arrives in Raleigh, there is no job, only an offer to participate in a one-time criminal act that promises quick money and no repercussions.

With nowhere else to turn, Travis must make another choice for his daughter's sake. Even if it means he might lose her.

Predictable and Annoying

This book is extremely predictable After the first few chapters you can most likely figure out how everything in the book will go and be right. I also got irritated pretty quickly with how everyone seems to have striking grey eyes. One character, maybe two, could be a possibility, but it's not exactly a common, or accurate, eye color. I would recommend it ff you're looking for an easy listen, something that you don't have to particularly pay attention to, but it jumps between three different characters' storylines.

Overall, it's not bad and the narrators do well, but don't expect anything new or exciting.

Good Storyline!

Male narrator a bit slow & it was difficult to distinguish the voices of the female characters. Overall a good listen so stay with it to the end!

Yawn

I’ve read almost all of Diane Chamberlain’s books, and I must say this one left much to be desired. This was more of a sob story than anything. Most of Chamberlains books have many layers, unexpected events, unpredictable layering to the plot, and a hook that keeps you invested. The good father was a yawn, I felt like nothing really exciting happened. No real twists or turns to the plot. I kept waiting for the story to ramp up, but it stayed at a slow boring pace. Narrators were good and probably the only thing that kept me listening.

Great Story!

Very enjoyable story! Intense & exciting. Left a few questions up in the air, but easy to look past. I liked all the main characters and felt the tension as events out of their control changed the course their lives had been taking. Excellent narration. Another great book by Diane Chamberlain!

Catches your attention from the very first page!!😊

I own several of this author’s books and I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy each and everyone of them, and this one didn’t fail to disappoint me. Lot of excitement and drama around every corner. The characters fall into that category “ You can’t judge a book by its cover.”
The narrator was great, and I’m picky about narrators. Thank you for keeping my interest!!

Excellent!

Another fantastic story by an author who is becoming my favorite! Every book I've listened to has been wonderful. From someone who has been as broke and down on their luck as Travis, I totally understand the choices that were made. Sometimes good people with good hearts are put in a predicament that doesn't need to define us, most times it comes down to sheer desperation. Well done Diane Chamberlain!!
