About this listen

Ten years ago, Grace saw something that would forever change the course of history. When evil in its purest form is unleashed on the world, she and others from their religious community are already hidden deep in the hills of Tennessee, abiding by every rule that will keep them safe, pure - and alive. As long as they stay there, behind the red perimeter.

Her older brother's questions and the arrival of the first outsiders she's seen in a decade set in motion events that will question everything Grace has built her life on. Enemies rise on all sides - but who is the real enemy? And what will it cost her to uncover the truth?

For the first time, best-selling authors Ted Dekker and Rachelle Dekker team up and deliver an intense, tightly focused ride through the most treacherous world of all.

Amazing Read

Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely! The book picks up pace relatively quick. It shows the dangers of having a religious spirit and the difference of having an a religious spirit and having a relationship with Christ. My sister and I truly enjoyed the book.

Thought-Provoking!!!

This book was amazing!!! Not what I thought, but it was GOOD!! It opens your eyes to the spiritual realm and what happens then. In my opinion, it correlates with the bible well for a fiction!

Unexpected twist

This was worth reading. I thought it was simply a story and then the author gracefully wove in a more meaningful message.

Foundational concept: What conquers fear? Love.

Although there is a lot more to enjoy in the story, I really appreciated the philosophical underpinnings and symbolism here.
"Coincidentally," I've been digging into the concept of fear this year....fear being the basis of anger, hate, hoarding, selfishness, judgmental assuming, all kinds of emotional (Depression, Anxiety, Narcissism...) and physical disease, relationship breakdowns....basically, evil. This story well conceptualizes it as shadow. I appreciate the story picking up on the shadow involved with religious legalism - then contrasting it with the light and truth of Love (capital L - not just an emotion!) rather than utilizing more legalism to shoot it down. My thoughts continue to sift - but I'll stop here. And - thank you Dekker family!
