Young, brazen, beautiful, and unapologetically brilliant, Margaret Fuller accepts an invitation from Ralph Waldo Emerson, the celebrated Sage of Concord, to meet his coterie of enlightened friends. There she becomes “the radiant genius and fiery heart” of the Transcendentalists, a role model to a young Louisa May Alcott, an inspiration for Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Hester Prynne and the scandalous Scarlet Letter, a friend to Henry David Thoreau as he ventures out to Walden Pond . . . and a muse to Emerson. But Margaret craves more than poetry and interpersonal drama.

Publisher's summary
A headstrong, fast-driving young woman gets pulled into a dangerous bootlegging scheme in this thrilling novella set in glamorous and gritty Prohibition-era New York City, written in an exciting collaboration between bestselling and critically acclaimed authors Fiona Davis and Greg Wands.
New York, 1933: America is in its second decade of Prohibition, and its citizens have never been thirstier.
Lydia Gardiner is the infamous queenpin of a criminal empire. From her penthouse in New York City’s ritzy Plaza Hotel, Lydia deals in all the city’s favorite vices—illegal liquor, drugs, women—ruling with an iron fist, a cold heart, and a knack for beating her coarse male counterparts at their own game.
Jo Hayes is an impulsive young woman determined to forge a life as an auto mechanic, but instead finds herself drawn into Lydia’s orbit following a disastrous car accident.
As Lydia takes Jo under her wing, they get pulled into a daring heist that just might bring down the city’s biggest bootlegger. That is, if they can escape the watchful eye of an up-and-coming NYPD detective with a score to settle. But as the two women flit between shady billiard halls and glitzy soirees, straddling New York’s highest society and seamiest underworld, they will soon learn that nothing is quite what it seems–and everyone has a hidden agenda.

Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Great Novella
I’ve read all of Fiona Davis’s books so I was ecstatic to see something new. This is a lot of fun. All her books feature a location and this one at the Plaza Hotel is a great sliver into prohibition.

Wonderful Afternoon Read
This is a novella. And, as such, is short but a wonderful afternoon read/lusten, provided by the combined talents of Fiona Davis and Greg Wands.
Although I must admit my ignorance of the works of Greg Wands (I will change that soon), I am a huge fan of Fiona Davis. If you are, too, then I think you will enjoy this story.
This audiobook is performed by three narrators. That might be a bit too many for such a short production, but you can make that decision on your own. As for me, I am happy to see more narrators working.

Wanting more
In the bustling streets of Prohibition-era New York City, where glamour clashes with grit, Gamlit Slip unfolds as a riveting tale of ambition, betrayal, and unlikely alliances. Written in collaboration between bestselling authors Fiona Davis and Greg Wands, this novella transports readers to a time when America's thirst for forbidden indulgence knows no bounds.
Davis and Wands skillfully capture the essence of 1930s New York, painting a vivid portrait of a city teetering on the brink of lawlessness. From the opulent halls of the Plaza Hotel to the seedy underbelly of illicit speakeasies, each setting is imbued with atmosphere and authenticity, transporting readers to a bygone era defined by its contradictions.
Gamlit Slip is a thrilling crime drama that offers a tantalizing glimpse into a world of vice and ambition where nothing is as it seems. With its dynamic characters and evocative setting, it's sure to captivate fans of both genres and leave them eagerly awaiting what is next.

Review
When I ordered this book I did not realize it was a 2 hour and 50 minute long book. I would never have wasted one of my credits on such a short book and am unhappy to find out that it cannot be returned. In addition, the performance is sub par. Two of the voice actors change the volume of their voices so much that you cannot listen to the book on a consistent volume setting. I found myself turning it up and down repeatedly in order to be able to hear the voice at an appropriate volume.
