Super Fun and Cute

I enjoyed listening to THE GHOST ISLE and am glad this is volume 1 which means there'll be more to come. This is a fun story for all ages. It's cute and clean and a terrific adventure. I loved the characters and the pirate ghosts were awesome. It left me wanting more. An overall great story by Holt Clarke.

J. Scott Bennett's narration was fantastic. His performance was flawless. He had a certain suspense in his voice that kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. Definitely great fun and looking forward to more in this series.

A Good Short Book 1

Any additional comments?

I love J. Scott Bennett his voice for each character is flawless and he gives the story more of a flare. I enjoyed the story although I think it has a lot to grasp. I am interested in the rest of the series though to bring everything together.

Great characters, perfect for the whole family

I really enjoyed this book. I wish I had listened with my kids because I know they would have liked it. I'll have to replay it on a car trip when the whole family can listen. This book has really interesting characters: And orphaned boy and his dog, a Gullah root doctor (Gullah cultures really interests me), and a ghost boy. I loved the riddles presented in the book. This was really a unique and fascinating ghost story, totally family-friendly, and engaging for all ages. I listened to the Audible audio version narrated by J. Scott Bennett, and as always, his narration was great. I love the unique voices he gives to each character, his pacing, and how he connects to his audience.

Tongue in Cheek, I Ain't Afraid of No Ghosts

If you could sum up The Ghost Isle in three words, what would they be?

Just intimefor Halloween... three words. This is part Charleston, SC historic past, part Native Lore, part Jim Morrison visualization style. With Crazy Horse, George Washington, Pirates and ... ghosts... Its a HOOT!

Who was your favorite character and why?

This works best when taken as the interaction of the characters and the visual description. Squojo, the main character, Sheets, the dog, and the historic walkon parts are favorites.

Which character – as performed by J. Scott Bennett – was your favorite?

J. Scott Bennett was kept busy with this story, with lots of characterizations. He was up to the task and did a fine job, as usual.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

At just about two hours, I listened in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

I'm interested in the follow up books still to come!

Thanks for the opportunity to review "The Ghost Isle"! Enjoyable.

Pirates, ghosts, and magic!

ghosts, gullah, action-adventure, 19th-century, middle-grades, series, historical-figures, historical-places-events

Excellent beginning to a series. Ghosts of people familiar in US history are presented in this tale of what magic is common lore along the Carolina coast. An orphaned boy of mixed heritage and lousy self image escapes his tormentors and his friend dog and a friend girl who knows things get together with the Gullah root doctor to battle ghosts of pirates and more. Full of action and adventure with a few painless American history lessons. It might be aimed at kids, but I loved it.
I was, however, thankful that I had an audio copy, as I would have obsessed over pronunciation of some of the names.
J. Scott Bennett gives an excellent performance as narrator.
