Publisher's summary

When the flood hits, America's East Coast is evacuated by every means possible. Trains, buses, and an unending line of cars head inland. All manner of boats and ships aid in rescues along the docks of New York.

Brooklyn paramedic Travis Cooke had dreamed of reuniting his family, but not like this. Escaping New York with his son and the ex-wife he still loves - and her new husband - they find themselves evacuated on the luxury cruise ship, the Festival of the Waves.

Hours later, the Festival lies dead in the open Atlantic: no power, no communications, and nowhere near enough food. Thousands of evacuees on board find themselves alone in a big ocean. For those that escaped the flood, the nightmare is just beginning.

Not about Apocalypse

This book got more into characters and motives for actions. Stuck with it but it’s one of those books that leave you thinking “what was that all about?”

Book was not for me.

The beginning of the book captured my attention. It had a promising sample. About mid-way through, it was losing my interest. At the halfway point, I did not want to listen anymore. I seriously wanted to return the book right then and there. Then I thought maybe something will change. Maybe we will learn about other characters. Maybe there will be a plot twist. What if I miss something. I listened to the entire book and was not pleased. It is a beginners book and did not have the suspense and action I was hoping for. Without giving anything away, the book is only about the Festival cruise ship. No other depth, no other outside information regarding "The Flood". I would have liked to known about other people's experience or more detail on what caused "The Flood" what happened to the flooded areas. It would have been interesting to know how many were effected. Who was not, etc.

The narrator did a good job trying to give specific voices to characters, occasionally it sounded like the character specific voices became blended so I have to really concentrate on who was speaking. Overall it was good narration.

Unfortunately, this book is not for me as it did not have the depth I was looking for. Others may enjoy it, I did not.
