About this listen

Every family has secrets—dark ones, twisted ones, ones they hide.

The Ivory family is no different. From the outside of their gated estate, one would see a beautiful, wealthy family. But the more perfect they seem, it only shows how many imperfections they are trying to bury. When Demi Rao, a young woman, is at her wits' end and on the run from escaping her captor, she comes across an employment ad from the Ivory family, looking for someone to help maintain their elaborate estate. Although the ad is strange with meticulous directions to wear all white, no makeup, and speak quietly, Demi applies. With no choices, Demi gets and accepts the job, and when she does, she quickly realizes she's not there to clean; she's there for a purpose. They picked her. They chose her. They've always known her. Behind the doors of the pristine estate lie secrets, a lethal human experiment, and Demi's entire life planned out for her.

The Ivorys have picked a favorite girl.

And it might just be her.

This novel is a dark thriller that has content for mature listeners.

It was really dark

If you can’t handle SA in a book or sex trafficking this book is not for you.

Got me out of my rut

I went in blind. Was told it was one that will hook you and I figured I would give it a try. So happy I did, I don’t really give 5 stars out often but this was amazing. Very dark and gripping.

4.5 ⭐️

The Favorite Girl definitely touches on some sensitive issues, so be aware. This book kept my interest and I had to find out how it ended. It is definitely worth reading.

What a story..

I was aware of the trigger warnings, but it was still a very heavy and hard read. I’m not so sure what to think about the ending… it was a good book and definitely thought provoking, but I’m struggling to make sense of it all and what the main takeaway is supposed to be, that might just be a me problem though, lol.

Loved!

It’s really hard to keep me engaged via audiobook. However, both the story and the narration kept me listening and enjoying every moment. Thank you!

Some plot holes

I typically enjoy thrillers. But this left more questions and seeming plot holes than most other thrillers. If you don’t mind thrillers that are simply for suspense and drama, this would be an okay read. But if you get frustrated by contradictions, plot holes, and unanswered questions, this may not be the read for you. Also, the build up was slow at the start, but towards the end seemed rushed. Maybe a sequel is coming to answer some of the questions and wrap things up? On a better note, the performance was well done.

I have mixed feelings

I did mostly enjoy it, but I really had to suspend disbelief for a lot of it. Spoilers to follow:

It did not make sense to me that they didn’t put her in a white room and then near the end just let her out and about after a few days in the house. And warning after warning about the rules that she continuously broke with no repercussions. Her inner dialogue also got a bit redundant and she was kinda dumb to be “the girl who got out.” I was surprised that Bradly was part of the family, but I was also surprised that he didn’t suspect she put the pill in his drink at the end. Why would he think she would still want to be with him once she learned he was an Ivory? And he gave her the pill, so he knew she had it. It just didn’t make sense to me. And I didn’t like that she wanted all white food when escaped, especially since she had never been a caged girl in the first place. Dunno. The trafficking part was dark and definitely had some dark moments. Ian also threatened to come back to have his way with her after she married his son, but then they killed themselves at the wedding because that was always the plan? Again it just does not make sense to me. The story didn’t feel completely thought through.

meh at best

the MC is helpless, confused, and inconsistent. Also the very last line of the book kind of pissed me off. she gives " if you stand for nothing you will fall for anything vibes"

I listen to a lot of mystery ans thriller, this story had so much potential, like I could see a trilogy hunger games style if it was developed better. the mystery and storyline was compelling, but the mc has no ... nothing. She is an npc living the worst story line. The twist makes little sense, and the ending seems rushed.
