About this listen
The second instalment in the best-selling Obernewtyn series.
Since their takeover of Obernewtyn, the secret community of Misfits has flourished, protected by their remoteness. Led by Elspeth Gordie, whose extraordinary powers set her apart even among her Misfit friends, an expedition sets out to rescue a powerful Misfit in a distant part of the Land.
Only she knows the enormity of their task. But for her there is yet another challenge, as she must fulfil her vow to find and dismantle the dormant death weapons left by the Beforetimers.

A quest with mind talents.
This was a really fun listen. It's classic YA distopian fantasy, Elspeth is on a quest to save her band of talented Misfits. It has likeable characters, an absorbing plot and the author does a good job of the narration. This was a favorite book of mine as a teenager and I really enjoyed revisiting it as an audiobook.

Still a Good Story
I started reading this series many years ago as grade schooler when it was still just 3 books. I thought it clever, insightful, and a good adventure then. Listening to it on audible now in my 30s it still checks out and is even better than I remembered. For anyone who was a fan of the hunger games I highly recommend. This series predates them but with a clever and resourceful female protagonist surviving in a post-nuclear-holocaust world where humans have returned to a dark age of religious zealots, there is certainly a little overlap.
